Bottle. Medium dark color, brown with shades of amber. Light head some lave. Sweet, oaky vanilla aroma. Taste is sweet. Slight brown sugar, slight vanilla. Not as roasted as most porters.

Clear mahogany pour, small white head. Aroma of butter, light resinous oak, and light vanilla. Soft carb, light mouth feel. The finish is sweet malts, bread, and grass. The slightest tinge of roasted malts come through in the finish. I can barely tell this is even a porter. Disapointing.

Bottle from a four pack. For some reason this brewery still uses clear bottles and it obvious this is not a porter (even if the brewery calls it that) dark Amber color with thin lasting head. Aroma is oak, toffee and a slight hint of rum.

This is much like every other I&G brew I have ever sampled. Large oak influence with molasses, toffee and end with a sugary note. Yet the oak is the largest element in the flavor profile. Still not sure how they call this a porter but if you want big oak, this is your brew.

Sample sent for review Oct 2013. Yes, it’s sat around in a clear bottle all this time, but at least in a case in my dark cellar. After a bit of foam peeks into the top of the neck, it easily pours into my with just a bit of fizzy head. Deep ruby color. First sniff allows notes of pear and applesauce. Taste has a bit of treacle flavor, but it’s actually rather dry. So I think it has aged past what the brewers intended, but it has no off flavors, just some changes. Mouthfeel remains pretty fizzy. A bit of banana after going halfway through. Can not catch much oak here, probably the treacle overpowers it. Alcohol warming finally starts in toward the end of the bottle.

Bottle that dad left here prior to Rotterdam trip, (erm, cheers dad, I think) consumed at home Thursday 2nd April 2015 Pours amber very dark brown looks a little bit like coca cola. Really sweet with wafts of toffee, caramel, sticky dark fruits and touch of chocolate on the nose, sounds great but a bit overload. More of the same in the mouth, it’s far too sweet in the which you sort of expected, some woodiness, not great at all.A5 A3 T4 P2 Ov9 2.3

330ml bottle in a box as Treacle Porter - Deep ruby red body, with a small fluffy beige head, which lasts fairly well but does not leave too much lacing. Aroma is treacle toffee, vanilla, some cake fruits and a bit of chocolate too. Taste is all over the place with this, but not in such a bad way, as the sweet treacle is married up with an odd floralicity*. Not as thick as I’d like, but still not too bad. * © jamesie1857

Bottle at home. Pours dark brown. Interestingly tastes like all the others - sweet toffee and vanilla, don’t get the treacle or any porter characteristics.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into the Innis and Gunn tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute leaving some light spider web lacing.
The smell had a rich bittersweet cocoa bean aroma running around some nice woodiness.
The taste was basically the same.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with somewhat of a sessionability about it. The carbonation was there but somewhat subdued allowing a nice smoothness about it.
Overall, I say this was quite an enjoyable beer worthy of having again.

330 ml bottle into snifter, best before 9/2014. Moderate gusher upon opening. Pours crystal clear deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, molasses, brown bread, oak, vanilla, light clove, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malt, oak, and molasses notes; with solid strength and complexity. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, raisin, oak, vanilla, light clove, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, oak, vanilla, light clove, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice balance and solid complexity of dark/bready malt, oak, and molasses flavors; with a good oak/malt flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice brown porter style. Good balance and solid complexity of dark/bready malt, oak, and molasses flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.
