Known for attacking drunk fishermen smugglers in the middle of the night, Osschaert—a shapeshifting monster from our region appearing mostly as a black dog with large claws and fiery eyes—would force them to their knees, his terrifying laugh ringing out across the waters. The beer is a collaboration with Totem, a smoked rye IPA brewed using 30% beechwood smoked malt, 30% rye malt and 40% pale ale malt. It's hopped with Columbus, Cascade and Chinook and dry-hopped with Columbus (pellets) and Simcoe and Cascade in the form of Cryo Hops®. Osschaert is a full-bodied beer with a grassy, subtly smoked flavour and resinous, tropical hop notes.

13/11/2018 - draught 25cl glass @Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Cloudy amber, nice white head. Nose is malts, piny hops, fruits and smoke, dusty. Taste starts malty, sweet, fruits, caramel, bit creamy, piny hops, smoke comes up in the end, even hint of leather when warming up. Not interstellar but original!

24 September 2018. At Dok Brewing Company, Ghent. Cheers to Anke & Pieter!
Pours hazy orange with a lasting, small, frothy, off-white head; lots of lacing. Aroma of smoked ham, sweet tobacco, peanut, rye, wheat, sourdough, kitchen herbs, spices. It tastes light fruity sweet, some apple & peach, and light to medium hoppy bitter, resinous & grassy, orange & mango peel, adding smoky notes on top. Dry, firm, resinous hoppy finish, bit spicy, lingering retronasal smoked ham. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. A succesful Smoked, nice hoppiness to it, although not quite my taste.
