This is our take on a double IPA. Although some would consider it somewhat ‘Belgian’ in its malt and yeast profile, we definitely crammed in all the juicy, fruity and fresh hops that any hophead could possibly wish for.

With Elliot, we tried to create a refreshing beer that’s dangerously drinkable while still maintaining that unxious mouthfeel that Struise is so renowned for. Being able to either quaffed or sipped, this is one of our most versatile multi-purpose beers.

Nice collaboration of two great breweries. The beer is very hoppy, but with a profound yeasty sweetness. It has some tones of sugary fruit such as melon as well. I liked it, but it was a bit too sweet.

Bottle from a beer shop in Ieper, Belgium. Sumptuous creamy fudge nose, pours murky with yeast in suspension. When you’re quite finished breathing in its fragrant aroma, citrus, spruce pines and orange zest fight for attention, squabbling in your mouth as apple orchard leaves, lemon tart and grapefruit come through. One of those flirtatious beers that leaves your hair ruffled and wanting more.

Foamed up like hell when I opened, but then again this beer has been on a long plane ride from Niagara to Medellin. Perhaps it doesn’t enjoy the tropical climate. In any case, I’m certainly enjoying it on the rooftop terrace of a hostel overlooking the valley of Medellin. Really clear orange peel aroma on the top – gives the beer a marmalade feel but without the sweetness. Pours a kind of brownish orange with good lacing and super foamy head. Well-disguised alcohol. Tangy, fruity finish with some grapefruit astringency. Slick texture. Original and nicely done. If this is the Struise/Mikkeller way of doing DIPAs, I would appreciate a lot more of them. Bottle.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy perfect amber with stable, creamy beige head. Delicious aroma of malt and toffee, bringing childhood memories to me. Pleasant, bitter onset, turning into a more malty and bready body, finishing deliciously dry. My #700. :-)

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy Dark orangey amber colour with huge, firm, thick, frothy, fully lasting, lacing, off-white head. Caramel malty aroma, piney and resinous hoppy overtones, some pineapple. Taste is really bitter hoppy, caramel malty counterweight, hints of grapefruit and pineapple, some yeast in the finish.

From a 33 cl bottle at home. Vintage 2011. Pours a murky brown with a massive thick off white head. Hoppy nose. Quite a sour and yeasty flavor with lots of hop bitterness. Astringent finish. Better if fresh. Update vintage 2012. Caramel malt flavors and no sour notes. Much better. Don’t age this one.

Bottle from Belgium in a Box; Pours murky brown/orange with a creamy off white head. Hoppy aroma with sweet malt, heavy bitterness in the taste and some pine and grapefruit notes. Complex and well balance beer.
