Our “San Diego Pale Ale.” Hop-driven from two key hops: citrus and pine from the wonderful and classic American Cascade, paired perfectly with the bright fruit and dankness of Australian Galaxy. With moderate bitterness and just enough malt backbone to elevate the hops, this Pale Ale is super-refreshing.

When it came to creating Ripper, we drew inspiration from the coastal surf cultures of SoCal and Oz. Sourcing classic Cascade from the Pacific Northwest and Australian Galaxy hops from…yes…Australia, we made a beer both lovers of frothy peaks and hoppy green buds will be stoked about. At the same time, we stayed true to our San Diego roots by pushing the hop boundaries of this style. While some might think it lingers on an edge far closer to an IPA, with all the dry-hop flavor and aroma, it’s actually right in line with the current-day interpretation of a West Coast pale. Ours just so happens to have an Aussie accent that’s cascading with a juicy amount of grapefruit and passion fruit hoppiness. So veg out or venture out. Either way, rip one open and taste this awesome golden nectar!

From a can its a big ass jolt in the face. Has a fresh pine tar nose that just will not quit. How about that stupid ass name, ripper, heheh, you mean like when you cook your hot dog too long in a deep fryer? Hot dog? hehehehehehehehe...... But anywho, lets tell you this is pretty big IPA and its the first stone I've had in a while. Have not been a fan of stone over the years and I dislike IPA, so where does that put me? Tell me, send me a beermail. Yes, at times comes a cross like a session Ipa, you know, a little veggie like? Hoo-ever, in the middle, it just starts too let you know its really a sixer. Starting to help me forget about my daily worries, eheheheh. Ends with a big bold bursting bang in the brain. Thank you! At least I get something for this biggly bitter brew.

Can, 0.33l. Brewed in Berlin. Cloudy copper pour, minimal white layer on top. Little to no lacing. Nose is caramel malt, grass and herbs. Mostly thin body, medium carbonation. Light mouthfeel and texture, really easy drinking. Mildly bitter taste. Aroma of caramel malt, herbs and grass. Slight orange peel, some citrus zest. Peppery herbal aftertaste. Drying mouthfeel. Medium lasting finish, moderately bitter and dry. Overall, good. Nothing extraordinary but solid brew nonetheless.

Pure white fluffy head stayed on a slightly hazy light brown coloured, finely carbonating body. Confectionery, pine, fruity aroma. Medium bodied, sharp on the palate & a clean finish. Bitter pithy tastes of peach, bubble gum, grapefruit & pine

“San Diego pale ale” proudly referring back to the early days of the American craft beer revolution and the rise of APA and – eventually – American style IPA, can (from Stone Berlin) shared by Craftmember, cheers! Very thick and foamy, eggshell-white, very stable head lacing in shreds over a hazy orangey peach blonde beer with amberish tinge. Aroma of fresh grapefruit, mango, cayenne pepper, old biscuit, green bell peppers, green tomatoes, orange peel. Clean fruitiness in the onset, some unripe banana and early pink grapefruit notes, vaguely sweetish and sourish with medium carbonation. Bread crust-like and biscuity malt core supporting a gently but adequately bittering, very elegant and aromatic hoppiness, peppery and grapefruity with more ‘bright’ mango and mandarin colours here and there. Clever and intelligent APA, a worthy tribute to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and other pioneers in the style, but at the same time an update of it by adding more contemporary ‘tropical fruitiness’ in the hops department. Lovely, again proof that Stone can achieve the same American quality standard in Berlin than in California and as a European consumer, I can only meet that with great enthusiasm.

Golden colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a nice balance of sweet malts and piney hops. Just a touch of tropical fruit.

0,15l from tap at Stone Tap Room Berlin. Amber hazy color, small white head. Smells earthy, pines, bit dank, spices, lychee, peppery. Nice smell. Medium body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes earthy, citric, peppery, spices, tobacco, bit leathery, grassy, bitter herbal. Finishes rather bitter with notes of earthy, citric and peppery notes. Rather on this bitter side, didn't like the balance so much, could also use some fruit notes

Can at home, 23/07/18. Hazed orange amber with a big old white cap. Nose is orange peel, straw, toasted grains, light breads, melon. Taste comprises orange pith, light pine, grapefruit zest, toasted malts, grassy, faint spice, light breads. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with balanced juicy hop bitterness. Decent enough APA.
