Tap at Nakameguro taproom. Dark brown, small golden bubbly head. Aroma is coffee grounds, quite full on, bit of booze too. Taste is similar, but not so full on coffee. Coffee still dominates but quite mellow. Lots of roast, touch of creaminess and bit of dark fruit. Long roasty finish.

On tap at Naka Meguro Taproom. 2015 version with coffee from Hug Coffee roasters. Pours an ink jet black with a modest tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. Vanilla, chocolate malts and roasted coffee notes on the nose. Taste is ridiculously smooth with the chocolate jumping out first followed by the vanilla and roasted coffee bitter finish. Reminiscent of a mocha latte with vanilla. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with a medium to full body. Smooth finish that is bittersweet. This drinks like a lower alcohol version of Ballast Point’s Victory at Sea. Seriously good coffee stout.

On tap into a small shaker showing thick black translucent rims and sparse foam. The nose shows strong notes of heavily roasted ground coffee and burnt bread. The palate is full bodied with very even carbonation, a strong coffee tartness that is apparent from the outset, strong coffee bitterness on the finish, and a prominent dark chocolate profile showing upon warming up.

Draught@Mikkeller Sthlm. Black colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some coffee, mild earth and quite pleasant toffeeish notes as well. Flavour is very similar with some ashy and fudge like notes. Wellbalanced and pleasant.

From tap at Mi2 29.09.14. Black. Beige head. Strong aroma of fine coffee, roasted barley and dark chocolate. A bit of unfresh sweetness of fatty milk chocolate in first aftertaste. Bitter coffee in further aftertaste.

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, low beige head. Moderate carbonation (might change to Guinness gas tomorrow, 80% nitrogen and 20% carbondioxide). Moderate roasty aroma, distinct notes of cold brewed coffee. Dry flavour, the Japanese kokuto black sugar must have been consumed entirely by the yeast. Coffee notes again. Certainly not a sweet stout, and maybe a bit one-dimensional, but fair enough.
