Bottle from the brewery, at home, 3rd November 13. Pours the darkest, heaviest beer I have poured for a while, slight almost black head, mystical. Aroma is ash, liquorice, molasses. Taste is liquorice, rich molasses, smooth, velvety and rich. Slips down a treat and deceiving at 11 ABV. Nice stuff, would be interested so see how it barrel ages. Very good, but not my favourite impy

Aroma of dark sweet malts, soft mellow roast, liquorice, vinous, red fruits, raisin, port, alcohol well hidden, complex nose
Taste of dark sweet malts, port, touch of chocolate, nice liquorice, dark treacle, warming alcohol, soft molasses, smooth, the thick stuff at the bottom of the glass - yum yum
Palate - Medium body, very smooth. Finish as main flavour, warming alcohol, soft chocolate and port linger
Overall - Just a great impy

Cask at the Craft Beer Co 2nd Birthday Bonanza, 29/06/13. Pitch black with a tan head that dissipates to the edge and leaves a swirl atop the glass. Nose is roast malts, chocolate, woody notes, sugars. Taste comprises demerara sugars, boozey notes, liqourice, molasses, chocolate. Full bodied, soft carbonation, sweet and boozey in the execution. Decent drop especially for cask dispense, held together well and the big ABV never really interfered with itโs drinkability. Re rated at home on 11/10/14 from a bottle. Super solid coffee driven impy, nice pinch of spice that balances out the sweet aspect of this beer. Viscous oily feel. Top draw was 3.8, now 4.3.

Cask at CBC Islington during the Siren tap takeover - London. Pours oily black with a beige-brown foam head. Dark malts abound in the nose with notes of burnt sugars, chocolate and raisins. Big sweet flavor with oily chocolate, good roast, earthy cocoa, some booze, light char, licorice, faint molasses, chocolate syrup, sturdy roasted malts. Full bodied with fine carbonation and oily texture. Warm finish, medium to heavy sweetness, bitter baking cocoa, dark sugars, overripe dark fruit. Ballsy but still manages to keep a nice balance.

Craft islington. Cask. Opaque black brown beer, good darkish tan head. Smooth and softish palate. Slightly viscous but also quite airy. Rich marlt, sweetish with a touch of dark chocolate. No real roast malt and a just a trace of coffee bitterness. The licorice comes through toward the end and provides even more richness. Dark fruits also develop along with mild alcohol spice. Finishes smooth and semi dry. A rich and complex beer which I really enjoyed, it just lacked the effortless drinkability of the very best Imperial Stouts, something it might of had on Keg.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, Islington. It pours black with a small light tan head. The nose is rich coffee, roasted malt, earth, mild acidity, touch of spice, dark chocolate and faint soy sauce notes. The taste is rich-roasted malt, earth, toast, spice, light alcohol, lots of coffee, liquorice, resin, dark chocolate and faint tobacco with a dry, warming finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Rich, flavoursome and pretty damn tasty.
