American wild ale brewed with pears

Aged for 11 months in wine and bourbon barrels, this American-style wild ale brewed with pears is both elegant and ambitious, featuring notes of pear, bubblegum, and oak with lots of funk from the use of Brettanomycyes and Lactobacillus.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: stiff golden copper color with a quickly dissipating head and barely left any lace.
Aroma: pear flesh; funky citrusy notes; freshly cut grass; that Lacto/yogurty character and a touch of sweet earthiness
Flavor: subtle tart then sweet hints blend with some woody tones and then subtle bubblegum-ish characters slide in underneath; mild aftertaste of earthy to grassy to pears
Texture: medium to full bodied, good as a sipper; light tart and sour tones create what I expected to subjugate my tongue but it's an acceptable level; finishes woody with some lacto and grassy tones
Overall: I'd say a nicely done sour ale with pears in it. I'd have this again.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden with a fizzy white head. Sugary tart aroma with some fruitiness (like pear). Flavor is tart pear and cracker. Not bad.

Beautiful copper and bronze coloured body with a deeper, strong amber coloured tint, with a thin, fast-dying off-white head that leaves just about nothing on top after a few seconds. Aroma of super tart and soured, spontaneous fermented notes of pears, apples, oak, cedar and a good deal of citrus fruits with a lot of sweetness here as well, but the yeast and especially the fruit is front and centre. Medium-bodied; Very effervescent notes dominate with a lot of pears, spiced notes, apples, soft oranges and apricots with some additional citric acid or something to generate this much sour flavours, but a lot of yeast and very soft supporting malts help out here that end in soured fruits and spontaneously fermenting yeasts. Aftertaste is slightly dry with a lot of pears, strawberries, raspberries, oak, cedar and apricots with some peach notes as well, but the soured, super funky yeast is strongest, and shows in a nice way with a good complexity from the oak and cedar notes with not much malt here on the end. Overall, a very nice, soft, easy-drinking, but incredibly tart and pure soured beer with a lot of pear and fruit elements, but the apricots and berries especially show the most with a lot of oak, cedar and floral notes throughout. Great to sample - a very nice beer throughout and great to have, this could be better perhaps if aged even longer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Rozi's Wine House in Lakewood (Cleveland), Ohio on 31-July-2021 for US$4,85 sampled at my house here in Washington on 21-November-2022.

Pear and a little wine. Bourbon is very light. All comes together very well. Slightly hazy golden pour without much head. Light tart finish. Great balance. Tap at Pizza Paradise.

Very short lived fizzy head disappears to zero on top of a slightly hazy deep amber color. The aromas are malt sweet vinegar with a little pear. Flavors are very much like nose, a little more tart and a little less pear. Decent, but to me nothing special.

$4.95 bottle, WW. Slightly hazy orange with a white head. Pear, spice, tropical fruit nose. Bitter fruit - almost more apple than pear, berries, light spice. Fine, but not my thing.

Light pear nose. Hazy copper, thin head. Ripe and unripe persimmon. Light body, moderate carbonation. What a delight! I was expecting some run of the mill beer with stewed pears, but this is a legitimate wild ale. I plan to try it with a particularly greasy borsch. I think it will work.

12 ounce bottle. Amber orange pour. Effervescent beige head quickly disappears. Earthy, yeasty fruity aroma hints at alcohol and pears. Intensely sour flavor. Notes of sour apple, pear and apricot. Strong vinegar and ethyl alcohol as well. Be prepared to pucker!
