Draught at Torst, pours near black with a beige head. Aroma is slightly roasty, tad herby and piny. Taste is clean, moderately bitter Black IPA. Hops are more in the earthy and piny direction and less so in the citrusy fruity one. Solid beer.

10oz at Three Penny, pours a watery dark brown with plenty of frothy khaki head. Nose has a ton of burnt malt and wheat, chaff-y, a little rubbery, toast, cracker, grains of paradise. Flavor is all roast and grains, malt, toast, rye, wheat, light pepper, some sweet caramel now. Finishes dry. Cool.

Pours a very dark brown, with a smallish tan head. Aroma is very dank, with an earthy quality. There's more than a little marijuana in the aroma and the flavor. Also, some pine notes. Flavor follows, with roasted grain and a very sharp, piney hop finish. It is really, really good.

Tap at the Jeffrey. Blackish pour nose is cocoa and wheat. Taste of wheat, cocoa, flat cola, grapefruit, only hint of pine, and malty. Subdued palate and not bitter at all. Ok

Tap at the brewery. Muddy, dark brown. Dense, lasting, beige head. Nose has scorched citrus, grapefruit particularly. Light roast malts. Comes across a little coffee like and cocoa-ish. Taste is a nice mix of roast and citric bitterness. Medium body. Foamy mouthfeel. Nice twang of bitterness. There’s soft cocoa sweetness running throughout. More light bitterness on the close.

Growler from the brewery. Pours deep brown with a hefty, frothy mocha head. Great snout, with some burnt pine, cocoa and lightly charred brown bread. Medium sweet flavor with notes of silky chocolate, moderate burnt earth, pine, floral hops, orange rind and a little grapefruit. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Finishes with burnt sugars, more toast, bittersweet baking cocoa, burnt brown bread, light resinous pine, more floral notes, grassy and rindy citrus bitterness. An excellent CDA from top to bottom.
