Coffee Porter

We start with a smooth, dark, rich and roasty porter then we add Columbian Cauca Cajibio Estate coffee supplied by our local friends at Maps Coffee Roasters to create an eye-opening marriage of our two favorite brewed beverages.

2 month old bottle (Puerto Rican version) A: Poured a tall thick tan head over a black body with mahogany highlights. Good retention and thin sheets of lace. S: Creamy aroma of mild coffee, chocolate and dark bread. T: Flavors of roasty coffee and bitter hops compete for a nice complexity. Chocolate and low creamy sweetness join at the end. M: Spritely carbonation for the style and thin body lend lots of drinkability. O: Light, fizzy and it does lack depth but I really enjoyed it.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a decent pace. Messy lace.
The aroma had some sweet and roasty malts, light milk chocolate, some dakr chocolate and some coffee tones.
The flavor moderated between the roast and sweet, coffee to chocolate and back. Aftertaste was the same along with the finish.
The palate was between light and medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Good smooth to semi-roasty abrasion along my tongue.
Overall, pretty good porter that I could come back to.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Taste is coffee, roasted malt, lactose notes, with the coffee flavors being most prominent. Some acidity present. Body is lighter than the average porter. Easy drinking.

Bottle from Val-U. Pours a deep brown with a small finger of beige foam. Looks like an iced coffee. Big coffee-forward nose with a touch of dark chocolate. Light on the palate. Nice simple coffee porter, that has a clean finish. Simple and elegant coffee porter.

Medium brown. No head. The aroma is just a lot of cold coffee. On the palate, fairly light, sweet chocolate character, with light coffee. A basic coffee porter but the balance with the chocolate is actually quite nice.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out medium roasted coffee upfront, without much else to discern. Flavour is quite subdued, with light coffee upfront and a little toasted malt. Pleasant enough, but very light and rather watery, lacking oomph even for the style. It's decent.

Pours mahogany tinged deep brown into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Chocolate, vanilla and espresso aromas. Soft and dry with dark roast coffee and caramel upfront turning to dark chocolate in the medium length finish.
