Het zwaarste bier van Brouwerij de Prael is ook weer op Belgisch leest geschoeid. De zoete karamel geur is opvallend aanwezig in deze afsluiting van de dag.

The strongest beer brewed at Brouwerij de Prael again follows the Belgian tradition. This beer has an impressive, sweet caramel aroma, and is a great way to round off your day.

Bottle at home. 11% abv. Aroma is malt, strong burnt caramel, toffee, huge raisins, dried fruits, yeast, brown sugar, touch of spices. Flavour is quite massively sugary sweet and sticky. Body is medium to full. Sorry fellas, this is simply too sugary toffee sweet for my taste, besides, it lacks the complexity of a good Quad.

Corked bottle. Paid only 3 euros, because it was past best before date. Deep dark brown color. Malt, a hint of roast and apple syrup in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty, almost sugary sweet flavor with toffee. Low on carbon, chewy and bready. Plums and a hint of pipe tobacco.

As De Prael Quadrupel with new label, bottle from Wijnegemse Drankenhal. Medium thick, irregular, pale greyish white, slowly dissipating head over a hazy, dark ruby-hued chocolate brown beer. Aroma of ripe blue plums, candied dates, banana mush, ruby port, caramel sauce, some weird 'pipe' iron, sugared tea, baker's yeast, hazelnuts, brownies, nutmeg. Sweet onset, raisins, dates and baked banana, light plum-like sourish edge; sharpish carbonation for the style but still acceptable, full and smooth, bit resinous mouthfeel. Rich caramelly, nutty and 'brown' bready malt body, sweet with softly toasty bitterish ending, where some of that iron returns as well as a first retronasal sign of oxidation; herbal and spicy hop bitter note followed by a lot of whisky-like alcohol, which does become a tad fatiguing and astringent in the end. Very classically 'Belgian' abt style ale, comparable in general flavour profile with Chimay Bleu which may have served as a source of inspiration, but a tad too crude in the alcoholic department and a little bit too metallic. Very enjoyable otherwise, though.

Bottled 330ml. -at Pivoteka Zagreb. Brownish/amber coloured, small off-white head, caramel and alcohol in the nose. Sweet and sticky with notes of dried fruits and metal with pretty strong alcohol presence. Bit too sweet.
