We were looking forward to this beer...and it turned out we were right to. With 11% ABV it’s a strong beer for beerlovers that enjoy their peated flavors. The original bitter coffee and chocolate flavors of Hel & Verdoemenis (translates as Hell & Damnation) are enriched with the peat, woody, roasty tastes of the exceptional Port Charlotte barrels. The beer aged in these barrels for over 6 months.

Bottle at home. Aroma is strong peat, coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, oak, whiskey, liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet with some roasty bitterness in the finish. Slighty boozy, heavy. Body is full. Very heavily peated, but leaves some room the roast, coffee, liquorice and dark chocolate to add dimensionality. Very good.

Bottle. A- Smoke, wet. A- Black color, black liquid, no head. T- Smoke, sour. P- Full body, slightly thin texture, average carbonation, unbalanced finish. O- 7 years old and unfortunately, a long time waited for a dud. I think I would have loved it in it's proper but very soured and off. Lots of floaties. Disappointing for sure and not what I waited for.

Trocken holziger Beginn, in dem die Malzigkeit nur im Hintergrund agiert. Mit der Zeit cremiger, etwas Schokolade, mittellanger Abgang. 9/7/11/9//9

4 or 5 yr old bottle. Black colour, brown head with short retention. Some glutinous blubber pouring from the bottle. Aroma's: peat, umami, something weird. Retronasal: iodine, sourness, woody. Flavour is moderate sour, light bitter. Medium bodied. Infected unfortunately.

Aldeles ypperlig til en dessert med porter og sjokolademousse. Mørk, røykaktig og godt balansert.

Bottle. Almost black. Malt, chocolate, whisky and soft hints of peat in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet, licorice, chocolate, whisky, syrupy with hints of peat. Complex, slightly alcoholic. Low on carbon. Delicious.

Bottle - damn did it take a while to find the appropriate variant in the DB to rate this - 2016 bottle - label says heavily peated and they aren't kidding - deeply smoky, this - age has allowed some oxidation and mildly sour buggy complexity to creep into it, and it's actually quite tasty as a result - tannic, medium dry, smoky - dark fruit, cherry skin/pit - tart finish - tastes like a smoky/meaty red wine - really enjoying this bottling at this age.

Bottled 20-01-2016. Smells peaty. Flavorwise it's barrel aged well, good amount of peat from the whisky, with some acidity, combined with dry woody flavors of the barrels and the great base beer. Boozy and heavy. Throw H&V into any barrel and it's great.
