We were looking forward to this beer...and it turned out we were right to. With 11% ABV it’s a strong beer for beerlovers that enjoy their peated flavors. The original bitter coffee and chocolate flavors of Hel & Verdoemenis (translates as Hell & Damnation) are enriched with the peat, woody, roasty tastes of the exceptional Port Charlotte barrels. The beer aged in these barrels for over 6 months.

Botella 33 cl en el Kraken 19..02.. 2018. (r98).

Bottle, 330 ml shared with Max and JFK10000. Dark brown, medium brownish head. Peat, roasted, chocolate, red wine, dark fruit, some wood, sour. Smooth. Soft carbonation. Medium to full bodied. Liked it more than I thought I would.

Bottle, US edition per note. Pours inky black, small tan head, dissipates to a ring with decent lacing. Aroma is smoky, vinous, molasses. Flavor is fairly smoky, vinous, molasses, a hint of meat, medium sweet, medium bitter. Not the greatest. Full body, creamy mouthfeel.

Black color with a fine beige head. Dotted lacing. Ok intensity in the aroma. Medium + body and a soft carbonation level. Oily texture. Tad sweet and some acidic notes. Mild peat, dark malt and some oak in the flavor. Well masked alcohol. Unusual dull and boring DM beer.

US import version - waxed bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours very dark brn/blk with a slight dark tan head. Aroma of peat and chocolate. Somewhat disturbing. Med + body. Flavor is peat, chocolate and dark malt. It’s clear the barrels are very elegant single malt, because the peat isn’t palate destructive. It’s dryer than expected, and the musty wood renders it astringent. I am surprised and pleased by the peat level. Great drink.

Zwart bier zonder schuim. Smaak is krachtig, warm met duidelijke whiskey smaak en ietwat port.. Omdat whiskey niet mijn favoriet is lager gewaardeerd. Verder wel een goed bier met "inhoud".
