Mug Bitter is a top fermented, amber-coloured beer of 5% ABY, made from pale malt and Caramalt 20 and richly hopped with Hallertau, Goldings and Challenger hops.

The beer's character is best expressed in the old saying: "Geen smaeck zo soet als 't Zeeuwse Bitter doet" (Nothing tastes as sweet as the Bitter from Zeeland).

Its hoppy and fruity aroma and well-balanced bittersweet flavour places this beer in a league of its own!

Mug Bitter ... Much Better!

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Clear golden, small creamy head. Flowery hop aroma. Some toffee and almondy Belgian yeast character. Dryish with clean mouthfeel and fairly light body. Some cookie malt. Think De Ranke XX Bitter, but lighter, more spritzy and more streamlined. Flowery bitter finish.

Bottle at Reading BF 06. Deep gold with lasting white head. Distincive Dutch/yeast flavour, aroma has a bit of banana, orange zest. Not much of a bitter, but drinkable

Bottle. Smells bitter, hint of aroma hops. Almost clear copper colour. Small stable white head. Bready flavour, not impressive. The hoppiness is OK, well aroma-hopped, but not very bitter. Breadiness again in aftertaste.

The aroma is of nuts, yeast, and prunes. The color is dark orange with a small disappearing head. It is very hazy. The flavor is of corriander, sweet malt, acid, and alcohol running over the tongue. The mouthfeel is very soft.

Cloudy orange-brown color. Head is initially large, frothy and rocky, but diminished quickly to a small but lasting head. Aroma is spicy and grainy, but also a bit earthy malt like. Thick body. Taste is sweet spicy, bitter. Bitter palate. Very decent brew by the Scheldebrouwerij! --- Beer merged from original tick of Mug on 25 Sep 2012 at 10:57 - Score: 6. Original review text: Late checkin
