Mug Bitter is a top fermented, amber-coloured beer of 5% ABY, made from pale malt and Caramalt 20 and richly hopped with Hallertau, Goldings and Challenger hops.

The beer's character is best expressed in the old saying: "Geen smaeck zo soet als 't Zeeuwse Bitter doet" (Nothing tastes as sweet as the Bitter from Zeeland).

Its hoppy and fruity aroma and well-balanced bittersweet flavour places this beer in a league of its own!

Mug Bitter ... Much Better!

Hazy orange-pale amber; small white head, fast dwindling into nothingness. Cray at first, then malty, and even faint smokey notes. Soft hints of UK hops, but all very discreet. Bitterish-vegetable-spicy, going over in more sweet malt notes, with again rootspices and citruspeel. Hops remain exclusively in the nose, and some oxydation seems present. Light bodied, flat as a pancake. Proven again, "hopbitterness" means a different thing to me than to most others around here. Including brewers.

Bottle @ home. Hazy golden/amber colour, white head. Nose of citrus, hops, spices and yeast. Taste is malty, bitter, yeast, bitter finish. Could have been a lot better if it had more body.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention but some minimal lacing. Aroma of typical Belgian malt with light dry bitter hops. Taste is a mix between some dry Belgian malt with a light bitter dry hoppy finish. Full body with limited filtration and some good carbonation. Refreshing and somewhat interesting but lacking some character.

(33cl bottle) Hazy, golden coloured effervescent hue with a huge and slightly yellow foamy head. Sweet and slightly yeasty nose, slightly cara-malty and (chest)nutty with notes of citrus and light spicy phenols. Sweet flavour, light bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Sweet malt-character, slightly fruity taste with notes of honey and light hops in the background; sweet and minimal-bitter finish; slightly nutty aftertaste with notes of alcohol, although it has only 5.0% abv. Rather disappointing concerning the name and the real level of bitterness.

Bottled (BB 01/2008)
Hazy orange-brown color, small but steady white head. Berries, honey, spelt or wood and yeast in the nose. Dry, woody and organic-like feeling in the flavor. Some bitterness which fades quickly. I supposed that this is an organic beer.

Bottled. Hazy golden colour (after pouring in the yeast), small white creamy head. Aroma is flowery hops with some caramel in it. Flavour is malts, flowery hops and some grass. Indeed a dry bitterish finish.
