355ml bottle at home, from trade with RobertDale. Thank you Bob! Light hazy golden orange color with nice off white head. Light hoppy and malty aroma, some pine, spicy hoppy, citrus and tropical fruits. Taste is sweet and bitter, like aroma but more intense, better. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is a pungent hop with not much else showing. Flavor is an ok hop with some chalky malts. Finish is super bitter with a small amount of hop resin left. A small decent fruitiness is left on the tongue. The only thing imperial about this is the alcohol which is not found. The hops are there but this is kind of a dry malty mess.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear gold with an off-white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has notes of pine and resin with a good amount of sweet grains. Flavor starts with sweet grain and resin and is joined by pine and a touch of sweet onion.

US state #27

Kansas is a U.S. state located in the Midwestern United States. It is named after the Kansa Native American tribe, which inhabited the area. The tribe’s name (natively kką:ze) is often said to mean "people of the wind" or "people of the south wind," although this was probably not the term’s original meaning. Residents of Kansas are called "Kansans." For thousands of years what is now Kansas was home to numerous and diverse Native American tribes. Tribes in the Eastern part of the state generally lived in villages along the river valleys. Tribes in the Western part of the state were semi-nomadic and hunted large herds of bison. Kansas was first settled by European Americans in the 1830s, but the pace of settlement accelerated in the 1850s, in the midst of political wars over the slavery issue. Largest city is Wichita and capitol is Topeka. Population 2,9 million people (2012), a bit smaller than Norway.

Bottle - thanks to RobertDale for pulling this off the shelf right after it was first put in bottles! Pours clear orange amber with a small off-white head that dissipates to leave nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is a nice tropical mix of citrus, passionfruit, and cat piss. Flavor is about the same, nice and fruity tropical up front with light sweetness from the malt base and light bitterness from the hops. Some bitterness lingering to the finish, but certainly not harsh at all. Medium body, oily mouthfeel, some burning from the ABV puts a small dent in an otherwise lovely beer.

I hate to be that guy, and then again, am I drinking a completely different beer. Or is everyone enamored with Free State so much that they are too biased by the old ratings? Either way, this beer is extremely overrated, as far as I am concerned. Tap at the 20th Anniversary celebration. Color is clear amber. Aroma is thick with yeastiness (dough) and lots of sweet biscuit malts. All this really hides the cube-ness of their hoppiness. The hops come off sticky and there is too much residual sweetness. This is mimicked in the flavor as it becomes a bit cloying for me. Its also very candy-like in the mix of residual sugars and hops. Its fine as an IPA but nothing special, I’ll take the Copperhead any day.
