Note: batch 5 and all subsequent batches are put into Red Wine Barrels (the batch number is printed on the label). All earlier batches were in White Wine Barrels and should not be rated here. Release 5 of Brainless on Cherries, has a new twist- we used Red Wine (cab and syrah) barrels for the second fermentation and aging as apposed to White Wine barrels. The result, dryer, lighter body, fruit shines thru and a bit of tannin and wood notes in the finish

Light unclear deep amber color with a small head. Cherries and some yeast in the aroma. Fine body and tad sweet. Moderate sournes/acidity. Soft carbonation. Oak, cherries and some yeast in the flavor. Decent nice ale. Well masked alcohol.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; Batch #26, Bottled 12/6/2013. Pours slightly hazy reddish orange color with a 1 finger foamy light pink head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing very quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of tart cherry, red grape, pear, apple, tannic red wine, oak, clove, pepper, candi sugar, herbal, grass, bread, and yeast/oak earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of cherries, fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of tart cherry, red grape, pear, apple, tannic red wine, oak, clove, pepper, candi sugar, herbal, grass, bread, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of fruity/tannic tartness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, red grape, pear, apple, red wine, oak, clove, pepper, herbal, grass, bread, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of cherries, fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast/fruit balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly tannic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice wine barrel fruited Belgian ale. All around good complexity and balance of cherries, fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

THANKS to Randy! 65 cl. bottle split by 4 @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Batch 12. Reddish amber, zero head whatsoever no mater how hard you pour, head instantly vanishes. Sweet cherry juice nose with light cheese. Taste is sweet cherry, cherry candy, gelatine candy, light sweet wine, faint spices,…. Body is quite akin to touch thicker juice. Nice but not stellar & the price is crazy. Also how is this not listed as a fruit beer on RB?

Sample at the tap room in Denver. Pours a pinkish-red color with a thin fizzy pinkish-white head that evaporates quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of vine fruits, cherries and wheat. Full-bodied with flavors of tart cherries, earthy malt and vinous oak. The finish is fruity with a red cherry and oak aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft - Boozy sweet cherries. Clear copper with a thin head. Boozy cherry fruit with the typical Belgian yeast profile. Again not my thing and I don’t get the barrel.

On tap at bier thirty. Pours out a reddish copper with a ring of head. Nose is barrel fruit not much cherries and some bread malt. Always wanting more fruit on the brainless stuff. Taste is a little tart and some sweetness.
