The Explorer is a punchy, fruity India Pale Ale with a traditionally high ABV and hop content. Balanced bitterness from the Challenger hops and citrusy, tropical fruit notes take you on a journey of discovery. Much like the Pith Helmet, The Explorer is full of adventure.

Can at home, 01/09/16. Orange amber with a well appointed egg shell white head. Nose is light citrus peel, bready notes, caramel, straw, a touch buttery. Taste comprises orange pith, straw, citric zest, light bread dough. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close dashed with grassy hop bitterness. Looks and feels good but ultimately does not deliver for the style.

Can at Appellation Wines tasting. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of honey, sweet malt and earth. Flavour of the liquid from Lockets and a medicinal finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Overly sweet and not very pleasant.

Can from Appleyards Deli in Shrewsbury. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - beyond caramel. Something sweeter. Taste - crunchie Bar. Too sweet for the style. Palate - light to medium bodied with a finish that’s too sweet. Overall - not great.

330ml can into my underused Westvleteren chalice at home on 16th April 2016. Looked fine, bright golden body, white topping. The nose is tropical fruits with light malty molasses, as is the taste initially. The flavours become more bitter and less sweet as the citrus nature of the hops assert themselves, interesting and different: I like the way it changes direction and sweetness throughout the drinking: the alcohol level becomes noticeable as the cooled beer warmed a little too. Enjoyed.

330ml can. Pours clear amber, good white head. Nice tropical fruit aroma, some peach, mango, lychee, marmalade. Taste is bright, fresh and fruity with a soft bitter edge. Decent fruity hit. Not a bad IPA at all.
