Cask at the Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. It pours black with a thick, bubbly beige head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, burnt toast, umami, salted liquorice, peppery spice and light ash. The taste is is firmly dry, bitter, charred malt, roast, decent hit of coffee, some rawness, tosted nut and peppery spice. Finish is dry roasted. Lighter end of medium body and bubbly carbonation. A touch harsh perhaps, but I don't mind it.

Cask at The Blind Poet. Dark brown body with ruby highlights. Thin beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of treacle, liquorice and Marmite. Flavour of coffee, rust, vanilla and grassy hops. Thin body with a watery mouthfeel. Flavoursome and interesting but quite harsh in places.

Bottle from Booths, Media City. Dark clear brown with a very thin head. Has lots of smooth tasting dark malts, not as roasted as you might expect for something labelled a stout, but it’s tasty nevertheless.

500ml bottle opened on 11th Sep 2015: poured into a UK pint sleeve at home. It’s dark n’ cloudy: what did you expect? Black with a tanned topping. Malts rule the nose and taste, coffee and vanilla esters to the fore in both the aroma and flavour. Background bitterness comes from the over roasted malts and the hop content. Not too smooth or rich in body depth but for a 4.4% Stout it has enough oomph to satisfy my taste buds and palate. Very pleasant.

Bottle from B&M, Ashton Gate. Near black with a thin, beige, head. Aroma of milk chocolate and prune with a slight tanginess. Flavour had a bit more character with toasty malts, some more chocolate and a dryish, creamy, finish. Fine.
