Liefmans Goudenband is one of the most distinctive dark beers in the world. Originally called IJzerenband (Iron Band) – a reference to the iron bands around the beer barrels – the bottle gained its champagne cork when it was renamed Liefmans Goudenband (Gold Band). Made in open vats with beer of mixed fermentation, it is left to mature for four to 12 months in the cellar. Mature beer is then fortified with younger beer, so the fermentation process starts up again.

0,75l bottle at home shared by me. No pop. Reddish hazy color, no head. Smells sherry, spices, peppery, earthy. Ok smell. Full body, no carbonation. Tastes of sherry, peppery, bit sweet, spices, oxidation, earthy. Finishes lightly sweet with notes of sherry, oxidation and peppery notes. Gone

Bottle drank in 2020. Clear deep brown with small dark beuge head. Soft dark malt, caramel, blackberries, sweet and sour cherries, chocolate, light herbal and soft oak, berry jam. Medium sweet and refreshingly sour. Solid medium bodied with soft carbonation. Very nice, really improved with age.
