Catch up rating from Saturday’s RS bottle share. One of the leftover’s from last year’s event. Solid sweet stout, minor barrel notes, plays nicely with palate and inherent flavors. Low ABV makes for a smooth drink also.

Pours not quite a pitch black with an impressive head of tan foam and lacing.

The nose is dominated by the Milk Stout aspect of the beer. Other than that, I get the barrel influence with a bit of anise and light dash of fruit.

I was hoping that the taste would be milder with the the milk but no. I’m finding it hard to get past that; some barrel things I picked up: anise and dark fruit but only just. I am not even really fond of how the chocolate plays out.

The mouthfeel is truly super good.

One and done for me.

Bottle at home... Thanks paul.. Dark black.. Thick tan head... Soft rich vanilla roast chocolate malts... Dark roast.. Soft chocolate malt.. Big vanilla.. The sweet vanilla chocolate dies off leaving a light soft whisky linger

Bottle. A- Subtle whisky, green apples. A- Black color, dark liquid, fizzy brown head. T- Oak, green apple, subtle bourbon, green peppers. P- Full body, average texture, medium carbonation, tart strong finish. O- Manged to get the one infected bottle I guess. This one had a bit of the bourbon and a whole lot of pepper and apple. Let down.

Chocolate, oak, whiskey, toasted almond nose. Black, firm creamy medium tan head, fantastic lace. Chocolate and whiskey, drowning out anything esle that may be there, very rich. Medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, boozy. Just the right amount of sweetness. Wonderful.

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Dark brownish black with 1.5 fingers of tan head. Aromas of toasty notes, light roast, chocolate, light whiskey. Tastes of dark chocolate, toasty notes, light roast, light oak and whiskey. Medium body with a dry finish. Light on the barrel character but still pretty tasty.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Sparrow, 4/30/15

Aroma: The aroma is booze and chocolate mostly, with some light roast notes.
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a creamy brown head, and mid-heavy lace.
Flavor: The flavor is dominated by the booze, it overrides the lighter sweet and roast malts.
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a boozy heat that overrides the rest of the feel.
Overall Impression: I think the underlying beer here was too thin for the barrel treatment. It just isn't capable of standing up to the heat. A 22 of this is probably more than I really wanted.
