Mighty, bold, and black as night, our house stout has gained a reputation for being contagious among the locals. This is no dry Irish anything, rather a strapping American Double Stout with a sweet undertow and addictive hint of roasty goodness. The name honors this brewer’s affinity with literary arachnids – specifically Charlotte A. Cavatica, the eight-legged character from E.B. Whites’ Charlotte’s Web. Be forewarned, this beer will stain your clothes.

At a tasting, thanks, smallish head, opaque pitch black color, aroma of dark chocolate, sourdough bread and a metal hint, flavor of dark chocolate, muddy notes and a chocolate cake maltiness, light sweetness and bitterness blending together. Nice and enjoyable.

Aroma is massively chocolate with hints of Licorice and dark malt. Flavor is again mostly sweet dark chocolate and malt with some strong bitter in the back along with a little carbonation to help balance. Alcohol get some warmth in the throat.

Can from Total Wine, Lynnwood
Black color, brown head. Mild roasted malt aroma, roasted nuts, touch of coffee. Smooth mouthfeel, lean, with light residual sweetness; good balance of roasted malts and chocolate, with a touch of liquorice and coffee.
Very good.

16 oz. can. No can dating. Aroma shows sweet roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, and barley. Taste is pretty nice. Has some bitter chocolate gives it some balance without any hop profile. Ash and some caramel notes. Nicely dry texture. The ABV is mostly hidden here. Body is not entirely as full as I expect but... The flavor is great and that is what counts most.

Tap at a dive bar in the Oregon coast. Black, of coirse. Served too cold. Heacy roast, some coffee and chocolate. Alcohol is noticeable in the flavor and aroma. Medium oalate, a little cocoa powder grit. Solid beer.

Tall can from Elizabeth Station. Canned on 2016-11-22. Pours an almost black with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, dark fruits. Taste is oily, roasted malt and hoppy bitterness. Same aftertaste. Quite dry. Good stuff, but I would prefer some sweetness in the taste in order to compensate high bitterness.
