Bold & rich, this enveloping quad builds its force and character through interlacing layers of flavor. Its deep complexity begins with a molasses sweetness with notes of dark fruits like raisins and figs but develops further with an undercurrent of tart spice from its distinctive Belgian yeast for a truly transfixing brew.

Sampled from a 25 oz brown corked bottle this beer poured an orange-brown color with an enormous fluffy orange-tan head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was strong sweet candied dark fruits - mostly raisin and fig with a sugary note. The flavor was sweet, tart and mildly bitter with dark fruits - mostly cherry, raisin and fig - followed by molasses and cognac. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Alcohol well contained. Marvelous!

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of residual sugar notes with light dry fruits and dry cereal notes. Taste is a mix of residual brown sugar notes with some dry fruits and lightly grainy cereal notes. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but seems to lack some cohesion between the different flavors.

Bottle, 75cl corked. A hazy, light brown beer with a small, beige head. The aroma is quite roasted and fruity, with some dried fruits, bread and berries. It’s full-bodied and quite dry, too dry I think, and also with a bit too hard carbonation. Not that it’s effervescent, it’s more that it feels way too force carbonated. Raisins, prunes, some bready, caramel-ish malts and a touch of toffee and roasted malts in the flavor. Decent bitterness too. Lasting bready, caramel finish with some dark chocolate notes. Rather boring this one, too dry and with a flavor combination I don’t appreciate. Well hidden alcohol though. 150617
