Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

Bottle from Tanakaya. Fruity aroma, slightly acetic, cherry, caramel, yogurt, a touch of vanilla. Rather subdued. Dark brown with reddish-orange tints and a lacy head. Tangy and sweet flavor with yogurt, cherry, chocolate. Not very sour really, though it finishes somewhat dry. Cream or vanilla flavors too. Not a whole lot of authentic character; a bit bland but ok.

[3/2/11] Bottle at a friend’s house in Amsterdam. Clear brown color with a beige head. Aroma of oak, cherries, sugar, malt and a bit of lactic notes. Sweetish-sourish flavor, somewhat vinous, with lactic acid, malt, oak, cherries and a bit of caramel. Medium-bodied. Decent.

12.7 oz bottle from Bottles N Bins Monterey, BO 09414. Nose is slightly funky candi sugar, hints of oak, and yeast. Clear brown with a medium beige head. Flavor is slightly sweet with a very light tartness and a cherry note after it sits there for a few seconds.

very pleasing sour/wild ale, more of the wild side than the sour which is nice, the sour ales arent my thing. was surprised by the color, was thinking it was going to be more red than brown but its a deep brown color and matching aroma to the taste. was great with dinner, very refreshing and the abv is just about right to not be at all heavy.

Sampled from a 12.7 oz green bottle this beer poured a dark scarlet-brown color with a small soapy tan head that lingered and produced a bit of lacing. The aroma was chocolate, caramel, nut and tart cherries. The flavor was moderately tart and acidic with notes of lemon, cheery, nut, bread and a light woody undertone. The finish was long, tart, fruity and acidic. Light to medium body. Interesting.
