Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

Pours very dark brown, with a finger and a half of off-white/greyish head. Decent retention and lacing. Aroma has a soft, sweet, mostly sugary foundation, with moderate sourness and delicate notes of red fruits (in the likes of cherries and berries, but not too distinct). Decently intense and clean. Taste notes follow the aroma, with not too much intensity. Sweet foundation (sweeter than usual per style), with a sweet edge in the mouth and a balanced, semi-sweet, semi-sour finish and aftertaste. Sourness and most of all funkiness are very much in check for the style, possibly a bit too much. Quite light in body with light to medium carbonation, resulting in a simple, smooth mouthfeel. It's a simple, highly drinkable example of the style, but also a not very complex/interesting one. Ok, but there are much better oud bruins out there.

18-10-19 // taster from bottle. Unlcear brownish. Sugar is tasteable, a mild acidic flemish bruin touch. Malt forward. Mild wood and dar kfruits.
