Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

Bottle. Copper brown color. Caramel and apple syrup and cherry juice in the aroma and flavor. Just a touch of sourness. Sweetish and fairly thin, with a hint of iron in the aftertaste. Diluted, but still tasty Rodenbach clone.

Re-rating (previous 2.5). Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 23C). Bottle 37.5 cl - Batch BABA0913A (BBF 13/09/2024). AROMA: medium-low malty presence with notes of toffee, slight caramel. medium esters (black cherries). medium-low to low sour background, neutral, with a faint acetic hint. APPEARANCE: brown color with slight reddish highlights. medium brown head with good retention for style. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium-low malt notes (toffee, light caramel). medium-low to low tart cherries. slight oxidation present (cardboard). medium-low bitterness and sourness with a dry and slight sour finish. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: an oud bruin with typical notes of the style.

Fantastic smooth mild fruity beginning. Dark cherries, very mild in sourness, refreshing with a deep and fruity sour cherry aroma. Wood is there, deep and fruity with a long woody fruity aftertaste.

Bottle 37.5cl. wrapped in paper [bought 06/2015, bbd 11/2016], @home poured into a tumbler. Clear ruby brown colour, small beige head, mostly diminishing. Aroma roasted malt, sour cherries, red berries, light tart, wood, sugar. Taste medium sweet and sour, fruity, woody notes, sugar. Lingering mild sweet 'n sour aftertaste, light body, watery texture, sticky on the tongue, average carbonation. Mild and refreshing Vlaams oud bruin, very nice.

Bottle @La Tana (Rome). Bruna con riflessi rubino, schiuma bianca media. Al naso note di frutta rossa, datteri, zucchero di canna, leggerissimo acetico. In bocca è dolce all'attacco, frutta rossa, leggero vinoso, acidità leggera e acetico appena percepibile. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Buona.

375ml paper wrapped green bottle. Pours a slightly hazy red-brown with a thin, fizzy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sour aroma of cherry, plum, vinegar and oak. Sweet fruity flavour of plum, raisin, cherry, brown sugar, vinegar, red wine, oak and caramel malt with a sour, acidic finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Pleasant.

0,5 bottle. Szép papír csomagolás, különleges üveg. Kiöntéskor a hangja olyan, mintha cola-t öntenénk ki, a habja is úgy tűnik el, és az illata - furcsa - de szintén kólás. A színe is.
****
Nice paper packaging, special glass. When poured, its sound is like pouring out cola, its foam also disappears, and the smell is - weird - but it’s also cola. The color too. Extremely wine-like, sour taste. At first you would think a person who hasn't drunk something like that before, the beer has deteriorated. For me, it doesn't come in so much. It looked more like a sparkling wine than a particularly good beer ... Extremely strongly sparkling.

Pours with an auburn color from the paper wrapped bottle. The head fizzed and faded so quickly that I forgot the color. Aroma is fruity with a light hint of oak. Primarily plums and red currant. Taste is a mildly sweet to sour combination with the sour taking over at the finish. Body is light with a watery texture. Very simple and nothing special but still refreshing.
