Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

Bottle from Rakuten. Clear ruby brown with a cherry cough syrup flavor and malty caramel. Soft carbonation. Ok but too simple and sweet... macro oud bruin seeming?

0.375 l bottle from 'Prik & Tik' (Tongeren), best before September 2018. Clear, very dark ruby with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, slightly sourish, quite fruity and a bit woody aroma of caramel, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, cherries and some oak. Slightly sweet, moderately sour, fruity and a bit woody taste of caramel, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, cherries and oak, followed by a medium long, moderately tart, woody-dry, slightly vinous and a bit musty finish. Medium body, slightly astringent and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite nice, well-balanced but not overly complex.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a dark rugged brown color with a thin white foamy head that dissipated immediately. Some messy lacing.
The aroma starts with some apple cider vinegar, lean sour to sweet with an embracing caramel loved malt. Some green apple fresh tartness flows over the soured malts.
The flavor blends the sour to the sweet. Green apple sticky aftertaste leading on into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat between a light and a medium on the body. Semi-sessionable sort of mild sour and then sweet sort of funky and then oatiness.
Overall, this is a good Flanders Red ale that I could have again, preferably in warmer weather.
