Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

375ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Clear dark reddy brown colour with a thin off-white head. Aroma: fruity - berries, dried fruits, sugar, caramel malt. Taste: tart, sour fruit, berries, sugar, caramel. No bitterness, but good sweet and sour flavours. Not my thing though to be honest.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear deep ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of lightly tart cherry, berry, raisin, plum, red grape, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, light nuttiness, oak, hay, straw, herbal, light funk, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, oak, and dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lightly tart cherry, berry, raisin, plum, red grape, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, light nuttiness, oak, hay, straw, herbal, light funk, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/acidic tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of cherry, berry, raisin, plum, red grape, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, oak, hay, straw, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, oak, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness fro macidity as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and lightly creamy/acidic/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very good Flanders brown ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, oak, and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. A bit tame on complexity, but still showcases nice classic style character overall. A very enjoyable offering.

Poured warm it has heavy head but goes away fast, heavily carbonated, good dark brown body. Lots of caramel on the nose, cola, painted furniture. Good graham cracker flavour and sour molasses, funky in the slightest but not nearly enough for a decent sour red. Bit of hazelnut finish. Maybe a good entry point for this kind of beer, and sessionable.

Ruby red colored to almost brown, medium beige creamy head, good lasting. Aroma is of brown sugar, tart fruity but light on the tart. Taste is medium sweet caramel, brown sugar, medium- tartness, fruity cherry, bit dry. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, watery. Thirst quencher but nothing special...
