Deep purple, orange and light brown coloured body with a very rich, five centimetre tall tan head - super wierd in colour - funky at best. Aroma of spices, curacao, malt, flowers and some odd fake sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt, metal, cardboard, flowers, funk and wierd spices - odd. Aftertaste shows the glimmer of curacao, but mostly odd malt and funky spices - and that’s it. Overall, a very very poor offering. I’m not sure what they meant by this, but this needs to never be bottled again, especially by Smuttynose proper. Do NOT be fooled by the high ratings per style - this one is awful no matter what it’s characterised as - this isn’t a Premium Lager, but it IS bad. I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased yesterday at New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 19-June-2015 for US$7,25 sampled a day later in my hotel room here on the LES of New York on 20-June-2015.

New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle: pours copper with a loose white head. Aroma is light fruitiness, straw, and lager. Taste is somewhat hoppy but not full fledged IPL in my opinion. Not bad.

Bottle from the brewery, shared at a tasting, 4/27/15. Hazy golden, large foamy white head, decent retention. Aroma of citrus, tropical hops, mild chlorine and pale malts. The taste is bitter citrus and piney hops, pale malt. Thin bodied, moderate lingering bitterness.

Another overpriced 375 ml bottle purchased at Tuckaway Tavern general store. I actually used a lager glass, shows a mildly cloudy gold color. Aroma of bready malt, unrefined sugar, with weak citrus.

Lighter grain based body with a lighter Co2. Flavor is mostly Pilsner malt with a floral bitterness that is light and abrupt in the finish. The bottle is only a tad over 60 days since bottling but it seems weak or dying. Or it was weak from the start. For the price point it is at I would expect much more for my dollar.

Bottle from Bert’s Light golden color bubbly white head. Floral spicy hop aromas with light crackery bread beneath. Lemony wheat in there as well. Odd mash up of flavors, not quite clean enough to be a lager.

Bottle shared at Garvie’s - picked up a Julio’s. Pours mostly clear gold with a foamy white head. The nose holds some tangerine, pale bread, orange rind, hay. Light-medium sweet flavor with some citrusy hops, breads sugars, melon, some candied sugars. Light bodied with average carbonation. Decent balance on the finish, some further semi-ripe citrus, pale bread, floral hops. Good stuff.
