After polishing off a whole bottle of Port I needed something light and cold before dinner. This is a clear amber beer, with a small white head. Palate is light and semi dry. Modest fine carbonation. Papery caramel malts with a trace of toffee. Little ripe fruits. Light semi dry finish. Fulfilled it’s basic function of whetting my whistle but otherwise pretty average.

4th Oct 2015: 33oml bottle into a La Chouffe badged tulip at home. Poured a proper red colour, beige head on top. Malty with a Rye like feel. Fairly sweet with malty molasses ruling the flavour and nose. I actually liked it, strange overall, but a decent sweetish lager with a bit of difference.

Bottle from M&S, 15/09/15. Reddish amber with a decent beige cap. Nose is sweet malt, treacle toffee, nutty, biscuit crumble, mellow fruit. Taste comprises more treacle toffee, caramel malt, toasted brown sugar, dark fruit twinge, candyfloss. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, semi drying close with a sweet licks. Solid red lager, can imagine this one getting a little cloying and sickly sweet if allowed to warm up though !

Bottle from Marks and Spencer, Enniskillen [300815]
Caramel red brown, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of caramel, mainly malts, bit fruity, toasted malts, no hops
Taste of caramel, red fruits, malty, toasted malts, dab of earthy hops
Palate - Soft carb, medium thin body, soft sweet. Finish of malts, some toasted barley, lingering malts
Overall - Not a lager - more towards an Irish Red. OK. Maybe a bit thin.
