Cask at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell on 15th October 2014. Sepia brown with tan head of foam. Sweet malt aroma with sour notes. Roast malts in mouth overpowered by sour apple and metalic tastes and a disagreeably sour decaying finish, as if turning. Described as ’fine’ by staff although replaced without quibble. Somehow I didn’t believe Tyne Bank intended it to taste quite so foul.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask. Opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Modest fine carbonation. Very mild dark malts, whisper of dark chocolate. Tangy lactose like sweetness. Light dry finish. Slightly cloying,. As Ashton says below, this is a mild, and not a good one for me.

On cask @ the Guildford Arms. Appearance - dark brown to black with a decent creamy head. Nose - light chocolate, cream and some biscuits and apples too. Taste - yep, more light chocolate and cream and the biscuits and apple note is confirmed on the finish. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly decent finish. Overall - ah, in my view this is a Mild in style. It describes itself as a black pale ale.
