Schmankerl means ‘delicacy’ or ‘treat’ in the Bavarian dialect. In order to achieve the classic Hefeweizen character we don’t use generic dried yeast but propagate a genuine Bavarian strain ourselves. Schmankerl is a cloudy wheat beer with notes of banana and cloves. The blue and white label reflects Bavarian colours, the region that produces the most diverse beers in Germany.

On tap at Eebria Taproom. Shared with Finn. Cloudy, grey-orange coloured body, firm white head leaving spotty lacing behind. Smell of banana and citrus, quite inviting. Mid-sweet banana and spiced lemon to the taste profile on a backbone of wheat. Mid-sweet fruity ending. Satisfying. (Bermondsey, London 29.09.2018).

500ml bottle from Aldi beerfest. Hazy golden with a generous white head. Yeasty banana, lemony aroma wonderfully matched by the taste. Rather splendid

Bottle shared during Scopey’s 5K tasting - Croydon, London. Pours hazy yellow-gold with a creamy white head. Light doughy wheat aroma, some yeast, dried lemon. Medium sweet flavor with more doughy wheat and little else. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweetly, with more dough, yeasty wheat, light cereal. OK.

Opaque golden wheat beer with little head a slightly sour apricot aroma. The flavour is quite fruity too but pleasingly crisp so it’s not overwhelmingly sweet. The disappointing thing is that there isn’t that much depth the flavour and the aftertaste is slightly watery but it’s still a rather enjoyable beer.

500ml bottle. Hazy brass colour with average, frothy, diminishing, white head. Minimally sourish vinegar aroma, a touch of mustard and apple, herbal hints of laurel and juniper, some banana in the background. Taste is minimally tart, slightly wheaty, fruity, hints of apple. I’d like more wheat and fruit. Needs improvement and maybe repeated consultation of the ’Bavarian Style Wheat Beer’-paradigm. Relaunch as "Top Out Titbit: The ’Schmankerl’ revisited".

Scopey 5K Tasting in deepest Croydonia. Thanks to Paul 5K. Hazy pale gold beer, small white head. Palate is light and a little soft. Mild fine carbonation. Light fruitiness and candy sweet fruits. Little floralness. Light finish. Not bad.
