In terms of basis, this Oak Aged Batch 18 is the smaller brother of Batch 17, and as such it has a copper-brown colour and a mixture of muscatel and Quadrupel aromas. In addition to the obvious presence of grapes, one also clearly recognises date and vanilla flavours. This batch has more of a smoky flavour, as newly burnt wood was used. The wood tannins however, are less prominent. As a result, the aromas are softer and creamier, giving the consumer a complex yet highly accessible flavour.
Characteristics of muscatel: fruity: orange blossom, honey, light orange, raisin; flowery: rose, geranium, lily; spicy: tobacco leave, cider, clove.

Nice amber-reddish-brown color with small head. Aroma of booze, brandy, nuts, burnt sugar. Both the Oloroso and the Brandy is noticeable. Taste is raisins, vanilla, burnt sugar. The barrel and the brandy is heavy in this one, but it fits together very well!

375 ml bottle. Pours a dark copper color with moderate head. Aromas of raisins, brown sugar, and sweet malts. Flavors of raisin bread, toffee, oak and alcohol. Pleasantly warm. Excellent. (Can cellar for awhile...)

Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles’s place. Thanks Tom L. Hazy amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, wine, fruits, wood, a bit of vanilla and a bit of cookies. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, vanilla, wood, wine, fruitiness and a boozy hint. Quite rounded.

Bottle 375ml. corked. [ As La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged Batch #18 ].Clear light to medium amber color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, wood - oak, wood, vanilla, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter bitter with a long duration, wood - oak, candy, sweet malt, vanilla. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20150411]

Tiny shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly raw and unbalanced, candied sugar, oak, raisins, grass, bark, caramel malts, dark sugar, vanilla, minerals, alcohol, chocolate. Taste is slightly raw, oak, grass, candied sugar, raisins, weeds, burnt caramel, bark, alcohol, minerals, hints of butterscotch and vanilla. Medium bitterness, slightly watery mouthfeel. Fair enough, far from as good as #16 and #17.

Bottle @ Post-Easter Procrastination, Ulfborg. Pours slightly hazy darkish amber with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with pronounced notes of vanilla and barrel, and touches of spices and hops. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt and fruit and vanilla, with notes of barrel and touches of hops. Warming alcohol presence. Sweetish aftertaste. Good stuff.

koper bruin met minimale witte kraag. Aroma is redelijk typisch van de La Trappe Quad (banaan, gist, rozijn, alcohol), met daarboven de wijn/hout en druiftoetsen... erg goed.. Smaken zijn redelijk zoet, licht bittertje, sterk, stevig fruitig van pruim, banaan, dadels, druif. vanille, alcohol, hout, Volle body, romig in de mond, lage co2, lange prettige zoete en fruitige afdronk. Al met al erg goed, al moet ik opmerken dat ik eerdere batches wellicht net iets beter vond, met name qua complexiteit.

Bottle from het Biermoment, BB 10-2039, large sample. Hazy copper color, short frothy head. Aroma of biscuity malts, cookie, brandy, caramel, toffee, slight spicy yeast, orange marmelade. Taste is more fruity and sweet, slight alcoholic. Slight spicy and dry and a little bite of alcohol. Absolutely lovely.
