BATCH 18 (blended in October 2014) was distributed as follows:
Type in BATCH
Moscatel 50%
Brandy 17%
Oloroso 16,5%
New Oak High Toast 16,5%
In terms of basis, this Oak Aged Batch 18 is the smaller brother of Batch 17, and as such it has a copper-brown colour and a mixture of muscatel and Quadrupel aromas. In addition to the obvious presence of grapes, one also clearly recognises date and vanilla flavours. This batch has more of a smoky flavour, as newly burnt wood was used. The wood tannins however, are less prominent. As a result, the aromas are softer and creamier, giving the consumer a complex yet highly accessible flavour.
Characteristics of muscatel: fruity: orange blossom, honey, light orange, raisin; flowery: rose, geranium, lily; spicy: tobacco leave, cider, clove.

375mL bottle, pours a murky brownish maroon. Aroma brings out complex dark fruits, brown sugar, and oak barrels. Flavour is very complex, with red wine barrels, brown sugar, caramel and dark dried fruits. Very complex and integrated. Excellent barrel aging job. Excellent beer.

Bottle, 375ml corked. A murky reddish brown beer, flat and headless. The aroma is lighlty alcoholic, with caramel, dried fruits and baked apples. Oak and grapes, sweet dessert wine. The flavor is lightly sweetish and toffee-ish, with tannins, alcohol warmth, dried fruits, grape notes, some baked apples and a little bitterness. Full-bodied, sweet and warming with a soft carbonation. Lasting oaked, vinous finish with some caramel, prunes and grapes. Rather delicious this one, pity it doesn’t look much good. 150718

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy brown with a very short lived tan head. Aroma of big oak, vinous notes, cola, caramel, raisins, overripe dark fruit, toffee and butterscotch. Flavour is heavy sweet. Full bodied with moderate carbonation that quickly starts to flatten.

The latest in this series, with a thin, off-white, loose head only retaining around the edges, and a hazy ruby bronze colour. Sweet aroma of marzipan, milk powder, chocolate sauce, banana, cinnamon, cognac, vanilla-like tannins, brown sugar, port, hazelnuts, apple sauce, liquorice, coconut. Sweet but not too cloying taste, soft with low carbonation, almond, banana and overripe pear, hint of candied orange and a lot of ’exotic’ sugars; smooth but full body, vinous, with a thick caramelly, honeyish and biscuity malt sweetness, evolving into a dryish finish of woody tannins (yet less strong than in previous editions), lingering brown sugar sweetness and some warming, port-like alcohol. Marzipan sweetness is strong in this one, and does not get balanced by dry wood effects as neatly as in previous versions - resulting in a beer which is still too sweet and candyish to be taken all too seriously, in spite of the serious intentions.
