Keg at Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Sat 15th February 2014. Listed on the keg font as California Brown, but this looks like the correct beer. Very soft in mouth good hoppiness throughout better than the Rat Against The Machine that I’ve also had. Streaky hoppiness, bit of curly citrussy goodness, like it. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Tap @ Rat & Ratchet, Huddersfield. Hand labelled ’Californian Brown’ so I asked the gentleman behind the bar what style it was. "It’s craft beer" was the reply. Hm.. i guess it’s up to me to figure it out then. It wasn’t a cross between Oregon and Newcastle Brown, like the label implied but rather a resinous American pale with fresh pine hops and a malt finish. Not mindblowing I have to say, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Tap at Port Street Beer House; copper pour with white head, pine hop aroma, big pine hop taste really fresh, a hint of caramel, very enjoyable.

Cask at IMBC 2013. It pours deep amber-brown with a small white head. The nose is wood, dried fruit, resin, leaf and over-ripe fruit. The taste is pine, resinous, spice, toast, dried fruit, leather and earth with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice.

Take away Keg at home ... copper brown ... thin tan lacing ... sweet berry fruits ... soft toffeee berry fruit nose ... mellow soft fruits ... big juicy berry ... soft toffeee ... dry light woody zezt ... sweet berry malts ... tiny hint of rasperberry bitterness on linger ...nice
