This new beer is a delightful coming-together of old and new, brewed using the malts you’d expect in a traditional brown ale, yet with American varieties of hops adding a contemporary flavour twist.

[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading] Deep amber with a yellowy-beige head and a light sparkle. Toffee up front with pine needles coming through. Some fruity red apples too. A pleasant, well-balanced beer. Well done!

Festival cask ale, one-third pint at The Welkin. Tiny layer at the top of close to clear, amber-brown coloured body. Firm lacework. Malt-fruity nose. Well blended taste of caramel malts and dried fruits. Dry, slightly roasted, bittersweet ending. Pleasing (Liverpool, 08.04.2013).

Cask at The Punch Bowl in York. Pours very dark amber with a creamy beige head. Aroma might be a little nutty. Med body. Flavor is nutty with some floral hop. Maybe a touch of earth. Finishes dry, and even, arguably, a bit astringent.

Cask at the Hamilton Hall, JDW - London. Pours clear, golden-brown with a fine, creamy white head. Nose holds floral, piney hops and a bit of toasted brown bread. Light to medium sweet flavor with sturdy, toasty pine bitterness, some tangy grapefruit and orange, mild earth, burnt toast. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with lightly reainous toasted pine, bread, dry earth. Very decent.

The Playhouse Spoons, Colchester. Clear amber beer, small off white head. Palate is light, dry and crisp. A little dark toffee in the malt. Robust bitter citric hops. Bitter floral notes with juicy orange - grapefruit. Buried underneath are mild red berry fruits that provide relief and balance from the bitterness. Crispy dry finish with more citrus and red berries. Good bitter linger. Fresh and lively. You never go far wrong with Titanic.
