Gravicask, 1/3 pint, shared with Finn at GBBF Winter '23. Clear dark brownish body, dotted spots on the glassware, covering off-white head. Inviting smell of choco-caramel. Similar taste of caramel and chocolate, hints of ripe citrus fruit in the background. Slightly roasted malty tail, mid-sweet. Quite pleasant to drink. (Burton upon Trent, 17.02.2023).

Rochdale Beer Festival 2017. Very dark ale. It has dominant chocolate orange flavours but it blurs the lines between porter and stout in this one.

Black beer with a thin brown head. Rich, bitter chocolate aroma. Flavour is similar though with a touch more sweetness to it. Rich, malty chocolate with a touch of sugary sweetness underneath. It feels relatively light but there’s a good bitter aftertaste to it. At this percentage it’s very drinkable.

Keg at BrewDog Edinburgh. Very dark brown, a small amount of visible carbonation creating a little beige/tan head. Smell is not so much chocolate as a decadent hot fudge sundae, with some wood chips and freshly milled paper. Rounded sweet taste. Lovely. However the body is weak and the finish is exceptionally short. Diddums. Otherwise would have scored reasonably higher.

Cask at the Hanging Bat. Smells like chocolate cake. Bitter chocolatey taste.

Keg at Glasgow Real Ale Festival. Aroma is strong coffee, well matched by the taste. Slightly watery, and taste quickly fades, which is disappointing

Cask at The Southern. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is massive chocolate and cream. Taste is the same. Does what it says on the tin. Good.

On tap at the Southern. Appearance - opaque black with a decent head. Nose - rich dark chocolate. Cream. Taste - more of the same. Palate - medium to full bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly fresh finish. Overall - it’s good but it lacks individual personality.
