Nils Oscar Imperial Stout is brewed only in a limited edition. Also Nils Oscar Imperial Stout was awarded as the best beer in the world. This beer is brewed with many varieties of hops and malt, nothing saved to make the stout full of character. Imperial Stout is best enjoyed combined with the dessert but works wonderfully with oysters. The Nils Oscar Imperial Stout can be enjoyed today but preferably mature a couple of years.

Oooh, I though I’d had this one before. Obviously not. The expectations were high, and damn did this meet them. Nisse & Ogi’s. Poured a very very dark brown body tinged with amber on top of which perched a small off white head. Hmm... wine barrel (is this aged?) and roastiness in the aroma, slightly sourish, very light soy sauce. The taste is fully malty, again seemingly vinuous, damn pleasant.... light... something that my pen refused to write on the paper so I must’ve been wrong about it. Not one of my brightest ratings but this was definitely a nice one.

Bottle from Cunningham, many thanks. Dark chestnut brown color with thick beige had. Very impressive aroma of roasted malt, molasses, coffee, dark chocolate, ash. Malty taste with coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, hints of dark berries, wood. Dry, roasty bitter finish. Delicious. I would have more for aging.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 02.10.2009
Aroma has coffee, roasted malt, licorice and hints of dark chocolate. Flavour has somewhat salty licorice, coffee notes, some soy sauce and hints of herbs. Definitely a foreign stout – too thin to be imperial.

33 cl bottle vintage 2009 @ home, BBE 09/2015
Might also have been vintage 2008, BBE 08/2014
Aroma has cocoa, licorice and some soy sauce. Flavour has salty licorice, some cocoa notes, hints of soy sauce and herbs. Smooth and actually somewhat nice sweetness in the background. Nicely matured, but still too thin to be an IS.

Appearance: Black color with a beige head. Nice lacing.
Aroma: Slightly sweet chocolate and coffee.
Palate: Light medium body. Slightly sweet and a low bitterness. Creamy carbonation.
Taste: Rick chocolate and mild roasted malt. Cold coffee. Well hidden alcohol.
Overall impression: A bit rare this one. Very tasty and nice, although an unusual thin texture.

Dark brown, almost black. Small head. Chocolate, tar and vanilla in pleasant combination. Stored in the cellar for some years - probably good for it.

Flaske på Café Viking, København: en herlig kraftkar av en stout, med alle de rette smakselementene. En anelse salt i ettersmaken - har de brukt litt røykmalt? Uansett,, en kjempegod stout jeg gjerne tar igjen.

Bottle at JF’s (from BOE) 28/10/12. Light black with no head. Mid roast malty nose. Tastes of roast malts, chocolate, molasses, treacle, touch of smoke. Medium bodied with light spritzy carbonation leading to a dry finish.

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black to chestnut brown with some red glints. The nose has dark chocolate, then tobacco, heading into liquorice possibly heading into charcoal and with a creaminess in the ’nose texture’. The taste has dates, almost but not quite heading into prunes in alcohol then nougat and bitter chocolate. The palate is big in structure with a loverly cream texture and a fairly elegant finish. Overall, a really well made beer.

Bottle at home in London. Aged a good few months, at least. Pours clear, auburn-brown with a fine, beige foam head. Big dark malt nose, some burnt meat, a bit of cocoa, earth. Medium sweet flavor with some sturdy roast, ash, some beef jerky, burnt grass and earth, some tobacco. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Dry, roasty finish with some baking cocoa, lightly salty meat, burnt earth bitterness, very subtle lactic tang, cigarette ash, a bit of milk chocolate and hints of raisins. Pretty nicely nuanced stuff. Not too heavy - in a good way.
