Dark, very balanced dosed caramel and aromatic malts provide, in combination with a traditional high fermentation, a unique beer that unites the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer.

From the tap at the brewery tap. Dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is malty, caramel sweet and yet at the same time slightly sherry like. Taste is nice and roasty, fruity cherry elements. Touch floral and very cake-like. An extremely nice dubbel.

Mørk brun lett tåkete med fingerhøyt beige skum. Lukter brunt sukker og svisker. Søt smak, uten bitterhet. Svisker og belgisk gjær.

# 170, 12/2015. Zklamání v očekávání. Příjemně ovocná (višně) a čokoládová chuť s květinovou vůní.

This 750 ml bottle came to me from Susan’s in Santa Fe, an early summer road trip. A cool front broke the worst heat of the summer so I am trying this beer now. I’ve picked my Straffe Hendrik glass for this one, appropriate I think. The arrival is is a mahogany colored body with an impressive head of very fine, light tan bubbles. The carbonation is heroic. I lift for the scent, nice. Plums, brown sugar and a yeasty touch. The taste, my goodness, very good. Candied fruit, yeast, malt, dark bread and light syrup. Creamy and smooth. Right in my strike zone. More subdued than the Blue Label or the Whisky Infused, both of which I like very much. But truly a top level brew..

Dark amber color, cloudy. Sweet and malty with lots of licorice. Some roasted malt and hints of milk chocolate. Pear and pineapple. Served very cold, but I detected a fine maltaroma that becomes more prominent as the beer warmens. A warming sensation of alcohol. Well balanced beer! Gouden Carolus 1984, tasted in september 07 in De Kulminator Antwerpen. porto aroma, somewhat dusty. Sweet sugary flavor with a hint of cherry and porto. Even a hint of chocolate. Cherry sweets in the aftertaste. Still in top shape after 13 years. (7 4 9 3 15 = 3.8)

An absolutely fantastic beer, spot on belgian flavours, the perfect amount of boozy strength while maintaining a huge body. Great beer

Bottle picked up at Against The Grain, Elgin. Can't belive I haven't rate this before. It pours deep mahogany brown with a thick beige head. The aroma is sweet, candi sugars, rich dried fruits, fig, raisin, sultana, date, plum, Dandelion & Burdock, toasty malts and toffee. The taste is sticky, sweet, sugared plums, prune, date, toasty malt, toothy, chewy, thick, liquorice root, brown sugar, Eccles cake, pleasant boozey feel, Chelsea bun, Dr Pepper and a touch of chocolate. Finish is warming and fruity. Fulsome body and moderate, foamy carbonation. A classic Belgian strong. It is a bit sweet, but it works in this kind of beer. Fun stuff.
