We usually do not make compromises, but this is probably the exception. Norwegians are dead scared of dark beers. This is an attempt to show that there are gentle dark ales. As such Havre Stout is smooth and drinkable.
We think Havre Stout is good both with and in food. Try pairing it with a read meet dish, or give your vanilla icecream a small dash before serving. Recommended serving temperature 8°C/45°F.
11°P 20 IBU 4,5% ABV.

Almost opaque black, small creamy cappuchino head. Chocolaty, a bit chemical aroma. Watery, but nice balanced flavor of roasted malts and chocolate.

(Bottle 50 cl) Black with and underlying reddish glow. Very small, creamy head. Lightly burned malty aroma. rather light-bodied, almost vaguely watery. Very malty flavours, roasted, slightly burned and perhaps a wee touch of smoke also. I miss some potency and fullness. 160905

Bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a beige head. It is not easy to see, but if you pour all of the bottle into the glass, it becomes a little bit cloudy from the yeast sediments. Aroma of mocha, roasted malt and coffee. The taste is not as "hard" as many stouts, quite balanced actually, and turns more chocolatey towards the end. Not especially hop-bitter, but dry anyway. I usually prefer a dark, quite bitter chocolate to go with this beer.(7-4-8-4-16-3.9) (050915)
Rerate: There is some hops and vague hints of bon-fire sourness as well in the aroma. The flavor as well has a fruity hoppiness to balance it. For a 4.5% ABV beer it is quite full-bodied. It has some licorice notes in the finish, along with roasted malt and coffee. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. (061108)
Bottle, #253. 1 year past BB-date. It pours a more or less black body and builds a finger-thick tan head. Lacings left. Dark chocolate and coffee dominates the aroma, but some hops are lurking in the background. It’s maybe a bit thin on the palate, but not thinner than expected for a 4.5% beer. Roasted flavors with chocolate and coffee, and a coffee-bitter finish. A little caramel blends in nicely. Some hoppy bitterness too, but subdued by the roasted malts. Smooth, easy drinkable and almost quenching. A bit on the sweet side though, but not more than the bitterness copes with. (090301)

Very dark color, small head. Quite simple malty and roasted malt aroma. Very simple taste, thin, with quite a lot of roasted malt and caramel. Not exceptional…

Thanks to Madberg for sending this Stateside! Big black pour that aroused a nice tan head. Strong aroma of Black Patent malt. The flavor comes first from the roast malt and then a yeast sourness in the middle with a long dry finish. Pleasant and different than most U.S. micro Stouts.

Very dark brown, nearly black beer; good dirty-beige head, with big collapsing bubbles. Sweet, blackcurrant-like nose, bit meaty aroma, or like dusty animal fur. Obvious oatmeal taste, roasted/burnt grains, bit sweet, cola-like undercurrent and again faint fruity flavour, not unlike blackcurrants. Faint liquorice. Medium bodied, slightly syrupy. Bready aftertaste, once more black cardemom. They buy this by the shipload in Grimstad? Good oatmeal stout, sweet but nowhere cloying. Quite agreable.

Dark brown/black beer with a small beige head. Malty roast aroma with chocolate and licorice, and with that distinct bready, straw-like oat character. Dry malty flavour, with a big mouthfeel.
