A strong, silky smooth imperial stout with a deep, dark ruby appearance. Mocha, bitter chocolate, liquorice and dark cherry flavours prevail, before the balanced, warming and encapsulating finish.
A contemporary Scottish take on an age old Russian classic style originally brewed for the Tsars. Our interpretation brings together hops from both sides of the Atlantic, amazing flavoured malts and dark sugars.
Like the original BrewDog, this beer would never bite you but would much rather give you a lick on the face. Look Out!
Serving Suggestion: Enjoy with an air of aristocratic nonchalance

Aroma has some peaty smoke. The flavour does keep a fresh hop bite amongst the bitter malts, chocolate and treacle. Oily feel.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks SG for this bottle. Black with a light brown head. Roasty aroma with coffee, licorice, dark chocolate, some spiciness and a bit of dark fruits. Bittetrsweet roasty flavor with lots of coffee, some licorice, a bit of chocolate and a dry, burnt and rather bitter finish. Full-bodied. Nice.

Well, shit. Finally, I thought tonight that no one wants this beer for trade so I opened it. Oh, correction! I opened the Old World Russian Imperial Stout with a very nice label. I have been trying to give it away and no one will take it. It’s a Brew Dog beer but I had low expectations. Then, suddenly, I open it as if just trying to get rid of it to clear space in my cellar and BOOM, RateBeer tells me it’s just Rip Tide which I have 4 of the 12oz bottles of. Shit. I could have just opened one of those!
Well, enjoying this one in a wine glass at 60 F. Sigh. Eff me. Best before 9 of 2014
A - Poured an amber brown. In the glass, against the light, it’s a dark brown but looks black in normal conditions. 2-finger head that takes it’s time fading away.
S - Smells like newcastle, a miller light and a chocolate bar had a baby. very weak nose with hints of coffee.
T - Sort of stale at the front of the tongue. Middle has hints of hershey bars and the finish is dry, oak, stale and weak.
M - Very high carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body.
O - this beer is not great and I’m ready to drain pour it but I’m going to finish it. Ugh.

Served on tap at BrewDog Camden into a tulip style glass (Dec ’11). Not too much of a head, maybe a finger, dark brown to black in colour. roasted malt and toffee smells came across, however the aroma was somewhat lacking in charectar. taste wise roasted malts, toffee/coffee, a little chocolate and a slightly burnt roast flavour. served a little too cold to be able to appreciate this beer fully and the flavour/taste improved as the beer warmed up in my glass. mouthfeel - a little on the thin side for a beer of this strength.

Bottle at pub. Pours a black colour with a small light brown head that stays all the way to the last sip. Nice! Fantastic aromas of coffee, dark bitter chocolate and dried fruits. I find the same good stuff in the flavour along with some wood. The beer feels both thick and smooth, and the carbonation make it feels like a coffe smoothie. I could eat this with a spoon! Medium bitterness. A lovely stout. More, please!

Nov 2009: The 5th and last beer of my BrewDog reviewing evening. This brown 33ml bottle was poured into my huge ’Judas’ glass and had 3 months life left according to the label. Very dark, almost jet black to the naked eye, no head sat on top, just a thin collar that clung to the glass. Rip Tide smells of the sea, unclean, dirty and in need of some filtering before use. A little liquorice was also present along with some toasted malts. Liquorice, coffee and toffee in equal amounts appear in the taste. It however lacks body and the creamy richness I would expect from a really sound Stout. Loses out because of its low viscosity. Not very impressed at all.
