No other Norwegian beer has won more international prizes than our Porter. We always include it in our tastings and it has turned many a ”lager lover” on to craft beer. It has a silky smooth mouthfeel with hints of coffee and chocholate. Good with classic stews, but mindblowing with dark chocolate!

En god smak av sjokolade, karamell, kaffe og malt. En fin duft av karamell og bek. Fin sort farge med et tynt skum langs kanten. En god litt søtlig etter smak av karamell og sjokolade.

0.5l bottle. Black body, light brown head. Aroma of black currant, cherries and chocolate. Taste of cherries, chocolate, coffee and floral/citrusy hops in the finish. Very nice beer.

Well, well... two Nøgne brews in a row (the other being their Underlig Jul). Huge, huge head (been a while since I saw one like this). Mocha coloured, creamy, thick lace with great retention. Dark brown colour is the beer with red highlights. Interesting nose with the roasted malts, molasses, dark fruits (prunes, dates), chocolate and hints of coffee and vanilla (even apples in the last pour). Holy smoke... that head won’t go down ! The burnt malt is not as roasty in the taste, but nicely blended by the dark fruits, notes of coffee and the light hop grassiness. This is a nice strong porter that does not have the dark fruits overpowering, but is loaded with well-blended aromas and flavours. Yet, it goes down nicely.

Fyldig, mørke, brent smak med tydelig preg av alkohol. Den er god, men jeg liker porteren litt mer quaffable.

50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 19.09.2009
Aroma has nice roasted notes, coffee and licorice. Flavour is quite rich with licorice, coffee, some semi‐dark chocolate and hints of herbs. Also the Nøgne house flavour is strong on this one. One of the best porters I’ve had.

Aroma has toffee, roastiness and Nøgne house aroma. Also hints of licorice. Flavour has somewhat salty licorice, coffee, well roasted malt and hints of toffee. Foamy palate, a bit too high on CO2. Not as good as I remembered.

Bouteille 500ml.

Awesome beer. Pours pitch black with volatile brown, foamy head and leaves thick chunks of lacing. Pungent, robust aroma of coffee, nut and even a note of licorice. Medium consistency. Taste has light bitterness and sourness, though the beer is overall more nose heavy. Bottle.

(500mL bottle from LCBO) Poured opaque near-black with a pillowy tan head that receded slowly with little lace. Aromas were roasted malts, cocoa, rasins, slight smokiness. On the palate roast malts and a bit of chocolate mixed with sweetish plum and grape and a slight woody/nutty flavour, hint of salt or smoke. On the finish, quite dry, dusty and roasty with some slightly green hop bitterness. Medium mouthfeel for a porter, a little too fizzy and overcarbonated, no alcohol detected. This is a well-made, balanced porter, with the dark fruit giving it a more imperial stout-ish feel than most.

Bottle from the Vinmonopolet Oslo. Dark pour with a big frothy tan head. Weak malty aroma with a lovely smooth liquorice malty flavour. A lovely porter and very drinkable indeed.

New Beer Distributors, NY 500ml ($8.50): Pours black with a large brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and some other good stuff. Taste is slightly sweet. Mildly bitter chocolate present. Bitterness present towards the middle and then mellows out into a nice smoky, roasty aftertaste. Body is exactly as it should be. Balance is also perfect. I am like.
