Rating from 11/22/2010.....Red amber color with some off white beige foam....looks real good in the glass....sweet malt cherries and some alcohol on the sniff...I get honey too...Refreshing yet solid--Light bready rye taste mingled with a distinct bitterness and alcohol burst--the honey and cherries don’t show up as strong as in the aroma for sure--the bitterness is overpowering in the finish---as it sits a nice bright tart fruit comes through like a cherry/cranberry with orange as well--good, but I need to age one and return to it

Whole Foods, Vienna VA: For some reason there was a bottle or two of this left at the whole foods (I guess that shows how often they restock the beer selection). Pours an orange colour with a white head. Aroma is malt, booze, liquor, and some more sugary malt. Taste is very malty, but fortunately not exceedingly sweet. I suppose the wheat character makes this a little lighter than the barley wines, but it doesn’t make it any less boozy. In either case, I think this gave me a headache. I don’t know if it properly aged or not.

Bottle @ Armin’s house. Thanks Baker! Reddish brown appearance with a light tan head. Sweet caramel, light banana, toffee aroma that strangely enough reminds me of a doppelbock. A little spicy, fairly light fruity, banana, pear, rich caramel, wheat malty flavor. This has held up pretty well.

Deep dark cola coloured body with a nice thick tan head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of pit fruits, grapes, cognac, whiskey, oak and a bit of malt - plus tons of sweetness. Full-bodied; Potent at first with a lot of pit fruits, toasted malt, oak, cognac, scotch and a touch of nuts thrown in. Aftertaste is just as potent, perhaps a bit dry from the oak and bitter from the alcohol and malt, but a touch of sweetness remains after all. Overall, a decent barley wine, a touch strong around the edges, but the deep and complex flavours make for a long time to enjoy even a small bottle - plus, perfect small size. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 11-July-2010 (over a year old) sampled at home in Washington on 06-September-2011.
