Old Wagg is a fine, crisp, easy to drink bitter of 4.0% ABV. The recipe uses Maris Otter Pale Ale malt with Amber Malt and a small amount of Crystal Malt. This blend gives a balanced dry malt fullness. The hops used are a blend of Fuggles and Challenger for a pleasing hop character, with Goldings added late in the boil for a pleasing aroma.

[cask from Back of Beyond, Reading] Interesting one this - a golden-coloured ale, initially floral with a hint of smoke. Then one of those dusty stable type of hops flavours. Slight hint of citrus and rather bitter in the aftertaste, but overall not bad.

cask at JDW ... amber ... light fruity nose ... quite a malty light fruit front with a good dose of hops ...

Cask handpull at The Angel ’Sporks. Gold, lasting beige head. Looks in good condition. Decent golden bitter, very biscuity, muddy, hoppy aroma. Crisp and lightly biscuity in mouth, snappy hoppy finish. Like all Elgoods, it’s a good beer, not sure the hop balance works, but yes it’s a decent beer.

Cask at The Bell, Banbury, Oxon, 31-03-08 Pours golden with a medium white head, looks very nice! Good honey straight away but there is a nice stinging and surprisingly good bitter bite to this beer, nice hoppiness, and really rather tasty. That’s four very decent beers tonight I’m glad I was able to make the CAMRA meeting.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 30/3/08. Golden coloured with a decent white head. Sweet caramel aroma with a touch of grassy hop. Flavour had some sweetness before a suggestion of indeterminate spicing. A bit strange.

Cask, Old Black Bull, Preston. Bronze colour. Some hoppiness in the flavour. An unremarkable bitter with little to recommend it. Joe Average.
