They say there’s no such thing as a free meal – but as you wind your way through wooded hills towards the tiny village of Cranborne, you might chance upon a charming rogue who says differently.

For years, the Cranborne Poacher has roamed these parts, outwitting both authority and prey in pursuit of pilfered plums and a pheasant for his pot.

Crystal and chocolate malts provide a full-bodied taste with sweet, complex flavours of damson and liquorice.

Bottle at home. Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aromas of raspberry jam, toffee, light spice, sweet cordial. Taste is sweet too, lots more red fruit. Too sweet for me.

500ml bottle. Clear amber colour with a one-two finger white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity, red berries, plum, almost like a fruit cider. Taste of liquorice, berry fruits, plum, malt. Medium body and carbonation. Sweet and fruity. A little unbalanced, the dominant flavour seems to be liquorice which is a bit weird, probably needs more spiciness, hops. Too sweet.

Bottle. Appearance - deep amber with a nice fluffy head. Nose - initially some cardboard but then burnt toffee sweet orange. Taste - orange and honey. Molasses and black jack sweets. Palate - medium to full bodied with a rich sweet but tangy texture and the finish Overall - best I’ve had from this brewer.

Reddish copper colored, strong beige creamy head. Aroma is of Haribo gummy bears, sweet candy sugar and some fruits. Taste is medium to strong sweet sugar candy, caramel, some mixed fruity-berry notes and herbal low bitterness. Light to medium bodied, and soft carbonation.

0,5 l bottle. Reddish bronze with a good foam. Fruity aroma, a little pharmacy-sulfur, caramel, slightly spicy, something like licorice. Taste sweet, with blackberries, currants, red grapes, blue plum, caramel, some grassy.

Clear, reddish-amber beer with a foamy off-white head and a pungent, sugary fruit aroma. I feared from the smell that the flavour would be overpowering or sickly but it’s not. I think it’s the liquourice, which I’m not usually a fan of, which balances out the tangy fruit enough to stop that happening. It’s not one I’d rush back to because it is a touch sweet for my taste but it’s not bad.

Bottle @ home. Clear amber to medium brownish color, medium sized beige head that leaves good lacing. Smell malts, sweetness, sweet fruits. Taste malts, sweet fruits, a hint of tea and something weird. Medium body, average to medium carbonation. Hmm not really my kind of beer.
