Would you like a strong beer? Then try our Stout in Esen at De Dolle Brouwers. In addition to the strengthening qualities, the anti-cancer substances humuleen and xantohumol are also present in tenfold. This is currently being investigated.
Be quick

Stout was designed at the request of our American importer and is brewed only a few times a year. It has the same fermentation as Oerbier and 9 percent alcohol by volume. The malts determine the colour and bitterness. For lovers of this type of beer, Stout is highly recommended!

Pours almost pitch black with a medium sized light brownish/yellowish head (strangely low sized for de dolle). Good retention and nice lacing. Nice and fairly complex aroma: light roasted malts among a brown sugar feel, strong chocolate notes, slight coffee, a fruity (dried red fruits?) undertone, a warming feel. Taste is a bit less satisfying than the smell suggested. The aroma notes are more or less still there (plus slight spiciness), but not as cleanly layered as in the aroma. There's quite too much of a sweet foundation in my opinion, with brown sugar getting a bit dominant. Overall taste experience: quite high sweetness, average bitterness, with a still balanced mouthfeel and a sweet aftertaste. Feels comforting, with a light hint of alcohol warmth. Medium to dense body, with average or slightly sub-average carbonation, resulting in a semi-full but quite smooth mouthfeel. As with many belgian stouts, this is actually something in between a stout and a classic belgian strong ale.

17-04-21 // 330ml bottle. Dark brown to black. Lively brownish head. Lids of roast malts. Coffee over chocolate, darker chocolate especially. Lower sweetness. Higher bitterness with rost bitterness more prominent then hop bitterness. A bit edgy but great.

Bottle from Etre Dark brown with faint garnet at the edges, brilliant clarity with a tan bubbly head that persists. Rich chocolate and caramelized sugars with bits of toffee, licorice and prune. A decadent layered malt bomb. So good.

My bottle was insanely lively and had a massive frothy head but I assume it just took a bump during delivery and this isn't indicative of how it normally is. Black beer, big head. malty aroma with caramel and a little chocolate. taste has that too. Toasty malt, caramel, a bit of a wine-y quality with some dark chocolate and a slight nuttiness in the finish. Despite the initial issues with having to mop some of it up off my desk this is rather tasty and although it has the warmth of an imperial stout it doesn't hit that hard so you need to be careful with it.
