On tap at the Wildeman. Hazy gold beer with a good fluffy white head. Semi dry palate. A dash of fresh orange citrus is largely swallowed by some intense bitterness! The bitterness is slightly grapefruit but mostly just bitter! A little perseverance and frankly some brave slooshing in the mouth produces a brief note of typical tripel like sweetness but this only emphasises the overwhelming bitterness even more! Intense and not in a good way, could not finish it.

33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning. Brew from the Haarlem brewkettle. Pale colored and hazy. Small head, quickly disappearing. Smells sugary sweet, once in the mouth there’s additionally sweet fruit & straw. Flavor is on the sweet side. Quite alcoholic, prickly. A light bitterness in the finish. Definitely not bad, but on the sweet side. Was perhaps a bit too young.

(Draught at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 30 July 2010) Golden colour with creamy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, pineapple and marzipan. Fruity, malty taste with dried fruit, pineapple, mango, candy sugar and a spicy finish with a generous bitterness. Almost full body, with solid malt sweetness. Some alcohol shining through. Very nice and tasty slow sipping beer.

Small yellowish head over bright orange beer, with some suspended yeast. Oppressive dull-grain nose, with a clear alcoholic streak. More alcoholic even in the mouth, liqueurish, burning flavour; white candi sugar, faint orangepeel - typical Huyghe, in fact. Burning MF, huge alcoholwarming, sharp, and a certain viscosity. Gad, this is Huyghe at its most horrific. And a pound to your penny, that the Jopen "brewer" is vehemently going to protest that it is totally HIS beer, HIS recipe, and that it’s going to be brewed any moment now in his chapel, etc.

30cl bottle. Decent white head. A little bit hazy blond colour. Lovely taste. The label has a picture of the church which is being turned into their brewpub/restaurant in November 2010. I’ll send in a pic...
