Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is as its name suggests a chocolate and cherry beer. This beer is an ode to Belgian know-how. We are known and recognized for our delicious beers and exquisite chocolates. We had the crazy idea of mixing the two and making them a unique product.
Brewed only with real Belgian cherries (no flavor enhancers or cherry extracts). The fruit comes from the region of Sint-Truiden in Limburg (Belgium).
The base beer of the “Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is a red-brown from West Flanders with mixed fermentation. This beer has a high fermentation base and is then matured in oak casks where it undergoes a second wild fermentation. The tannins in the casks (very large barrel used for the storage of great Bordeaux wines) give Chocolate Duchesse Cherry its sweet, fruity, refreshing and bittersweet taste.
Once the base beer is ready, the master brewer adds 20 Kg of "Kriek Gorsem" (Belgian sour cherries) per 100 liters to the beer. For 6 months, the beer macerates with the cherries. The cherries give a fresh and fruity taste to the beer which has a sweet and sour base. After, we add cocoa to the beer which will soften (without going overboard) the beer and give it a chocolate aftertaste. the total process take 24 months.

Clear reddish amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry, a good fine crispness. Well, what can you say about this? It's the classic Duchess sour fruity vibe with the aceticness turned right down and further tempered but a decent, if slightly thin, dark chocolate vibe. Closes out with good rich ripe cherry on the back end, touch of cherry liqueur. Yeah, thought this would be awful but it really isn't.

Bottle from Hop Lords, Worcester. Pours clear deep cherry red with a fizzy beige cap. Aroma: tart, cherry, chocolate, light black forest gateaux, vinous. Taste: tart, sharp, tangy berries, vinous, strawberry, cherry, gentle balsamic, oak. Medium body with spritzy carbonation. Happy to find that they've not ruined the base beer.

Taster Tastes as described. Sweet vanilla chocolate flavor at first, then come the cherries followed by the tart flavor and some vanilla again at the end. Quite a journey. It's not my cup of beer. Little too sweet and the vanilla/chocolate turns me off.

Erg wrang mondgevoel. Maar een lekkere kersen afdronk met een hint chocolade.

No fajne, a myslalem ze bedzie to jakis zamulajacy kompotowy slodziak. A tu prosze kwasnosc, winnosc, pestki i dzikosc wisni, beczka fajna, w tle kakao i belgijska czekolada, Fajne skomponowane. Piana srednia ale znika szybko, winno bordowy kolor, pachnie pysznie wisniami w occie. Pairing with Mlekovita 4 month matured cheese. Polecam

Didn't realize tonight was gonna have a Duchess theme. I love the original and the Cherry so I've been looking for this one for years. Even better than expected. The chocolate likely comes from the malt, and it's not overpowering at all. Decadent.

Bottle from Eltham Wines. Dark brown pour. Lots of red cherries in the nose, prunes, red grape, faint chocolate notes. Taste is pretty much the same as above with the chocolate more prominent. Dry lightly tart finish. Interesting little number.
