Captain Babel is a NEIPA loaded with late Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic kettle hops followed by a further wave in the dry hop. It contains just enough bitterness to balance the fruity flavour and ABV.

Can from Stirchley Wines and shared in Bangkok. Poured a hazy straw colour with a bubbly round white head. The aroma is grainy malt, marmalade citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter sweet, with a crisp, fresh, juicy tangerine citrus, dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

440ml can. Hazy golden, big off-white head. Aroma of overripe fruits, orange, mango. Taste is sweet, fruity, overripe mangoes and orange, papaya, apricot, almost no bitterness. Medium body. A little on the sweet side, decent NEIPA though,

Can from Honest Brew. Murky golden body with a dense white head. Lively carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of orange peel and straw. Flavour of orange squash, mango and grapefruit. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. It’s nice but if I’m being picky it’s not as punchy as it looks; it tastes a bit diluted.

Craft Old Street. Keg. Hazy amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, good fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, fluffy sweetness. Mild citric bitterness fronts mellow tropical fruits. Touches of pine and spice, pretty mild. Light finish. Pleasant enough but never really gets going and has some Dutch style over carbonation.

Can. Beer Stop, Dronfield. Hazed, glowing gold. Thick and bubbly, lasting, off white head. Nose has spicy hop and spicy malt. A little dank and resinous. Bit of baked citrus. Not that much like any NE IPA I’ve had, particularly. Taste is a little dry, with a piny, resinous bitterness. Medium body. Overly foamy carbonation. Dull bitterness to finish. Feels tired and old, despite being pretty fresh. A miss.
