Berliner Braun uses a sour mashing process to force a sour fermentation. A strong lactic and funky fermentation ensues for twenty four hours before the beer is boiled and fermented as normal. This unaged version is tart, sour, and has a corresponding dark fruit malt character. We decided that instead of aging all of it, we will release a small amount of it before it goes into barrels.

Aroma of malt, wood, sour fruits, some caramel, hint of spices. Flavour is light sweet and moderate to medium sour. Finish is dry. Very refreshing beer, it’s hardly fully realized but I found it enjoyable.

Bottle. Caramel in the aroma. Apple sour flavor with caramelly notes. Chichory. Sweetish. Does drink easier once you get through the first sips. But a great beer, no...

Bottled at Babajan, Stockholm. Clear mahogany colour, minimal head Lactic lemony nose. Sourish with light-medium body and clean, hard mouthfeel. Sour and lemony, some minerals. Sourish finish with some rusty metal. Has nothing going for it, at all. Miserable sour sharp metal.

500 ml bottle @ Hall toll, Stavanger. Clear brown body with almost no head that fades quickly to nothing. Aroma is quite mild but has something distinct and nice. Mature fruity, sour fruit a bit like plum with soft brown malt. Flavor is pleasantly soft and mild malt, medium sweet caramel, dark fruit, slightly but distinct acidic. Fine balanced body and a pleasant tart and fruity aftertaste. Rather unusually and definitively a pleasant one, perfect match for sushi and probably blue cheese.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Very nice dark red to red-brown color, no head. Smell and taste lightly malts, light to moderately sour and something else I can’t quite put my finger on. Weird. Not really bad but not really nice either. Don’t know what to think of this..

Bottle @ benzai. Deep cherry red colour with no head at all. Smells sour, rotten apple, burned food on the outside of a cooking pan. Tastes sourish, cherry peel, burned food, weird. It’s not horrible, but it isn’t very nice either. Thin to medium body, very soft carbo.
