650ml bottle thanks to Joes. Opaque pitch black color, full sized light brown head that lasts for quite a long time. Smell and taste malts, hops, slightly some fruits and moderately bitter. Fizzy carbonation, ok body. Overall a bit disappointing and too highly carbonated.

Bottle @ home thx to Joes. Dark brown colour with some ruby redness shining through. Smells slightly roasty, some chocolate. Tastes oatmeal, chocolate and roasty. Not a very deep taste. Pretty thib to medium body with a bit too much carbo.

Aroma is stale hops, roasted notes, some cocoa, resin, vanilla and ash. Flavour is rather ashy with some licorice, nettles, hops and wet wood. Too ashy and stale, not nice.

650ml bottle

Pours pitch black with a large foamy head. Aroma of fruity and grassy hops, hints of orange and ripe fruits. Taste is fruity and hoppy with some burned malts and ashy notes. Finish is watery and carbonated with some fruity and ashy notes. A bit unbalanced black IPA.

Single 12 oz. at Binny’s for $1.50. Pours a very dark brown with a scrum of foam. Almost a sweet malt smell at first, then some hops start to assert themselves. Taste is more or less a hoppy stout, with some roasty bitterness from the grain, and then a bit of hop citrus note. Gotta say it lacks the smooth malts I usually find in a Black IPA. It reveals some interesting character as it goes down, but I can’t get away from my first impression of a hoppy and roasty stout.

Bottle at home in London. Pours dark brown with a thick, rich beige foam head. Aroma holds a healthy dose of roasted malts, along with some sweet cocoa, burnt wood, grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor, lots of charred wood, some licorice, burnt grass, bitter earth, some dark sugars. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with some decent resins, heavy roasted malts, lots of charred wood, almost abrasive burnt grass, some ripe citrus, especially grapefruit. There are some interesting characteristics in here, but the bitterness also comes across a touch harsh in the end, and the citrusy fruits seem a bit unrealised. Still decent overall, but not everything it could be.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours very dark, almost black with a slight ruby hue. Aroma of herbal hops and some roasty malt. Taste is light bitter. Very malt dominated. Roasty with coffee and a little earthy herbal hops. Light bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. I’d drink it again but not seek it out.

Bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours very dark brown with a fluffy brownish white head that slowly dissipate senile leaving some lacing on the glass. Smell is slightly sweet, tiny sour, slightly fruity and hoppy with toasted malts, resinous wood, grapefruit peal, slightly dry grass, apricots, moist soil, green grapes, dry apricots, sweetened coffee and hints of pine. Taste is tiny sweet and bitter with roasted malts, sweetened coffee, bitter chocolate, pine, grapefruit peal, moist soil, green grapes, slightly dry grass and resinous wood. Mouthfeel is slightly dry, slightly astringent, slightly watery and light to medium bodied. Finish is bitter and tiny tart with grapefruit peal, orange peal, moist soil, moist wood, cereal, toasted malts, bitter chocolate, pine and hints of coffee. Not too bad...
